Serpentum Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Judas: Songwriting is the main focus at this point in time, there are a lot of songs already written in the production stages and there's a hell of a lot more that are soon to emerge.
Polar: Yes, preparing for our next album, which we are planning to release in January 2026, and soon I will record drums for 7 of those 8 songs (the last one will be acoustic), which has been our production tradition since 2022 -  to record the drum parts first and the vocal parts last. We have also recently selected something unique to do as a single release in October this year, much of that one is already completed.

2.In 2025 you have released 2 albums, musically how do they differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
Judas: There are a few songs from the most recent album (Scar the Abyss) that are re-recorded versions of songs from the first release (...In the Choke of Existence) and they still flow together with the more recently written songs well, essentially due to the core of them emerging from similar places, be it purely from pain or a certain state of mind. With Polar now contributing to the writing and recording processes we've been far less limited in our approach to songwriting and structures, it's good to finally have all the necessary elements to better express things in a more powerful way. The roots of DSBM are still there but we can now better convey the spirit of what we're doing through different mediums, it also gives us the opportunity at times to offer a subtle nod every now and then to the old gods that carved this crooked path before us as we let the music bleed out.
Polar: The first couple of releases in 2017 were done with drum machine, and basically produced by Judas, with contributions by Scourge. From 2022 onwards (after Judas recruited me as a drummer) I have handled the production side of things. The song writing is still primarily Judas and Scourge, with me just writing the drum parts and chucking in a couple of guitar ideas here and there. Draugr and Yrsa don't write, they have contributed more as "session" players for recording and shows.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored over the years and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters?
Judas: Suicide, Misanthropy, self-destruction and mental sickness have always been a good source of inspiration. The lyrics I write in Serpentum reflect the facing of shadows, decay of the mind, loss, hate and misery, which is also interwoven amongst anti-christian beliefs, Satanism and occult philosophies and practices. Over the years the songwriting has evolved for us individually as well as collectively, it never comes from a place of ego so we work well together and keep trying to delve deeper down into the depths of ourselves while learning and figuring out new ways to refine our sound whilst moving forward regardless of what trials stand between us and another step towards progression.
Polar: To put it simply; I'd say having a drummer write the drum parts from 2022 onwards has changed the feeling of the songs since the band started putting out material, but the inspiration and spirit has been consistent

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Serpentum'
Polar: "Serpentum" is a Latin word that translates to "of the serpent" or "of the snake" in English. The band already had that name when I was recruited as drummer.
Judas: The symbology of the snake has been something that has always intrigued me, many cultures have used it as either a symbol of fear or one of power, I prefer the latter.
Serpentum is the body and the music is the venom.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
Polar: "Anguish" is an 1878 oil painting by August Friedrich Schenck, depicting a mother sheep in grief over her dead lamb, surrounded by crows. The artwork is held at the national gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. It encapsulates both the inevitability of grief, and also the predatory nature of the world to capitalise on the suffering of others.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Polar: My favorite show was the last one we played at Nowhere Festival in Brisbane. It was such a powerful reaction from the audience. According to those who reviewed the festival - we wiped the floor with every other band that day. It was also the last show we will be playing in Australia for the immediate future, for reasons that will be explained below.
Judas: The last show was definitely my favourite so far, the energy was good and the crowd was very responsive, there were some special moments where it felt as though we shared and understood each other's pain, communing through old reopening wounds. We each put a great deal of effort into performing live to make sure everything is set to a certain standard, musically as well as in presence, corpse-paint and always try to remain true to the essence and raw destructive nature of black metal.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the remainder of 2025?
Polar: Serpentum is not performing in Australia right now. Our July gig booked at Crowbar in Brisbane was cancelled because the climate for extreme music has become politically strangled. The social media, virtue-signalling brigade have made it clear that aggressive, transgressive art is no longer welcome in this country unless it bows to feminist orthodoxy and PC purity tests. Our music is rooted in darkness, despair, and confrontation—not in apologising to cultural gatekeepers who seek to neuter the arts in the name of “safety.” Until that changes, I will not participate in the Australian live music scene. It is being cleansed by sanctimonious zealots on witch hunts. I will be focused on writing, recording and targeting listeners in overseas audiences. Hopefully in the future we'll be booking shows in other countries.

8.On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Polar: For the last couple of years our main audience for streaming has been Australian due to our regular live shows, however that has been gradually shifting towards both USA and Russia as the primary audience for our music and traffic to our website. And just recently, the USA audience has surpassed the Australian audience on streaming platforms. There is also growing interest in Germany, UK, Sweden, Canada, Poland and Turkey. No idea how this happens - people just seem to pick it up from youtube, spotify etc. I guess the countries with the biggest BM audience are going to find us.
Judas:  It's been interesting to see that the music we've made has resonated with people from the other ends of the earth, some have reached out directly too which has been a humbling experience.

9.What is going on with 'Kaerulean' these days, a band that shared a lot of the same members?
Polar: Kaerulean is only related to Serpentum in that Judas recruited members from the band after it split up four years ago, including me. We all live in the same suburb of Brisbane and are old friends. Kaerulean is dead, even though Encyclopedia Metallum lists it as active. None of the members are interested in continuing it. There was never an announcement about the Kaerulean breaking up because nobody was really bothered to do so. All of the music and lyric writing for Serpentum is basically Judas, Scourge and Bile (ex guitarist) who were never members of Kaerulean. So while some of the members are the same, both bands have completely different spirits.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Judas: In the future I think the songs will keep getting heavier, I want to dig deeper into the emotional and crushing elements we've started tapping into.
Polar: I'd like to focus on the DSBM themes but having more push towards blast beats, shredding guitars and heaviness than typically found in that sub-genre. In terms of production, I just try to get better with every release, and that seems to be working.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Polar: For drumming; amongst many others, I've been inspired by Absu, Aeternus, Mgla, Satyricon, Abigor, Napalm Death, Dying Fetus, Dark Funeral, Suffocation, Nordjevel. Recently I've been enjoying Negator, the new Cradle of Filth album, Tryygon's new album "Dusk" which came out in August and Blackdeath from Peterberg
Judas: Influences for me have been Avslut, Shining, Gra, Advent sorrow, Leviathan, Satanic warmaster, Carpathian forest, Xasthur, Burzum, Exiled from light, Sargeist, Ungfell, Peste noire, Ferriterium, Watain, None, Coldworld, Mephorash, Savrttjern.
And some bands I've been listening to lately are Theotoxin, Yith, Darkened nocturne slaughtercult, Absent in body, Der weg einer freiheit, Naglfar, Afsky.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Polar: Australia’s stages have been seized by ideological tyrants, masquerading as moral crusaders, determined to sterilise the art. They call it “accountability,” but it’s censorship. They call it “safety,” but it’s control. And every band, promoter and venue that bends the knee only feeds their moral crusade. Serpentum was built on chaos, annihilation, and the raw essence of black metal. We will not neuter our art to satisfy the virtue cult or their PC inquisition. Let the weak choke on their own dogma. Black metal is war. Always has been. Always will be.
Judas: Hail Satan.

Vider Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

A.H: Vider is about exploring hatred. I want to channel my own hatred into the chords of the guitar.

Vider is the result of me not thinking too much and just letting the music guide me, while creating the most chaotic and pummelling listening experience as I possibly can.

2.Earlier this year you released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

A.H: I don’t think that I thought very much about the style beforehand. I just wanted the music to sound as filthy and putrid as possible, without losing too much dynamics. I think it ended up very punishing.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

A.H: The lyrics mostly revolves around hatred… Weaved with occult and satanic symbolism.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Vider'?

A.H: Vider is a play on words in Swedish. The word “Vidrig” means disgusting or repulsive. So the word “Vider” would be translated to the singular personified version of that word. The embodiment of filth and disgust.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

A.H: I made the artwork when the music was done. I wanted a symbol to mirror the music I had created. So I came up with the upside-down hammer-cross… I wanted the art to give a promise to the person who would otherwise scroll past it.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

A.H: I am not sure… Vider is something that comes from a very deep and dark place within me. And this far in life I have yet to find someone who can match and resonate with that part musically. I’m not interested in compromising with someone else when it comes to writing this type of music. But I do have some friends who will come with thoughts and ideas on how to improve on the music, which I take to heart and think about.

7.The physical version of the album was released on 'WolfKult Religion’. how did you get in contact with this label?

A.H: They reached out to me just a few days after the album was released on Bandcamp. The album ended up trending quite hard on Bandcamp, which would have helped WolfKult find it.

I’m happy they reached out, best underground label out there.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of war, black and death metal?

A.H: So far I have only received positive feedback. The music seems to be resonating with people.

It’s streaming everywhere, and the physical copies has sold out as far as I know. I’ve been doing more than a couple interviews recently and I’m thankful to everyone who has showed interest, bought the album, bought shirts and talked about the music on streams, in magazines and comment sections.

9.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

A.H: I will continue chasing a state of controlled chaos and the ecstasy that comes with losing yourself in the creation of music.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

A.H: I think that many bands that I grew up listening to have contributed in some part.

It would be a long list… But bands like Entombed, Dismember, Archgoat, Bolt thrower, Watain, Terrorizer, Teitanblood, Proclamation, Conqueror, Revenge, Dio, Napalm Death, Nasum and Bathory, to name a few. I cant say that any one band in particular has had more influence than another.

I like the heavy riffs and simple song structures of Bolt thrower, the same goes for Archgoat.

The atmosphere of Watain, Bathory and Teitanblood.

The urge and unforgiving nature of Nasum, Terrorizer, Nails and Napalm Death.

Yeah… I think everyone of them had some major or minor impact on what I like about music, and how I write music.

What am I listening to nowadays… hmm… The last Teitanblood album is amazing, that one has been spinning a lot since it came out.

11.Does Occultism play any role in your music?

A.H: Yes, Occultism has always intrigued me. The idea of something unknown to most being present… And the thought to attempting to communicate and channel energy from that entity is an exciting thought to me.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

A.H: Thank you for this interview. Thanks everyone who has supported Vider so far.

Stay underground. Support the underground.

Ritualistic  soundscapes,  throat  singing  and  chants  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Volloíom Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Volloíom is a vessel of my higher deamon.

A portal for luciferian light to shine from the abyss into this world.

Volloíom was started in 2021 and the project itself is my own brand of Satanism taking influence from traditions modern and ancient.

The majority of the music is performed by myself except for the drums but on ocassion I've had talented and worthy artists make their contribution or I've collaborated with others just on vocals on some of the promotional rehearsal material.

Daimonia has added a bit of his flare with some extra ambience in certain parts since we've started collaborating on as well.

2.In July you had released a new ep, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

I feel it's the strongest material I've released to date and closes out a cycle for the project.

3.Since 2024 you have released a great amount of ep.s and demos, do you spend a lot of time writing and creating music?

The writing process for Volloiom is a little unorthodox.

I tend to practice and write riffs leading up to a release and I usually just know when it's time to record.

The music comes out when it wants to. Baritone or guitar( depending on the release) is recorded in one take and then same with vocals and drums after.

I like to leave room for experimentation and the free form parts need to be authentic and in the momment

So I may have a clear idea of something but it will take on it's own form during the recording process.

I like to limit myself and my tools

and turn my brain off and let the antimonian current lead me forward

trusting my own instincts and black flame.

I work in pro audio as my career

Volloíom has allowed me to rebel against my own profession in a way.

I spend a lot of time reading grimoires and writing lyrics or doing sound in some way and I'm always listening to music.

Volloíom has a mind of it's own and I am but a mouthpiece led by its destructive current.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover Theistic Satanism, Occultism and the Left Hand Path, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

I've always written about those subjects in my lyrics since I was young, but I think I've become less cryptic over time. Lyric writing was my gateway into occult literature.

My path is very personal to me.

It isn't a trend or gimmick like some others. It's a very real thing that I take seriously.

Sacred and for the few.

I've practiced in some form since I can remember.

My idea of Satanism is probably much different than others. I cannot stand certain bastardizations of the mysteries.

It keeps me grounded and is a very necessary and integral part of my life and my being.

5.I know that the band name is Oscan for 'To Destroy', how dos this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

It has a dual meaning.

It can be interpreted as the destruction of self during the trials of the void but also the destructive power that is wielded in godhood.

Destruction and creation

Spiritual death and rebirth

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The artwork was painted by Rotting Reign and is a custom piece that was inspired by my practice.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Nothing is fixed within Volloiom.

Yes, most likely.

8.The ep was released on 'Black Vomit Productions', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

A group of like minded artists fueled by creation of the black arts.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reaction has been great.

Although, I create for myself and if others align with the energies all the better.

10.Can you tell us a little bit more about the other musical projects the band members are involved with?

Aaveiv is Daimonia's(Drums) project and I've had session musicians from Qlipha play on some of the promotional rehearsals

Great bands and true artists.

Support their work.

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

The last release is as close to a full length as I've done but there is a different form of the project being moulded currently

Rehearsals are underway and playing live is the next immediate direction.

New material is always on my mind.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Bathory

Von

Acherontas

Lurker Of Chalice

Arckanum

Dissection

Blut Aus Nord

Portal

Kampfar

Teitanblood

Shaarimoth

Watain

Have all left a mark on me in their own way.

Besides black metal I like baroque music and jazz.

Lately, I've been listening to the new Acherontas tape. Some of their best work. Sorguinazia, from Alberta. Lilith worship done right.

Unholy Impurity and Athiel from Sardinia I would highly recommend as well.

The new Svartsyn and Teitanblood have been spinning regularly too, great albums.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Hail to true artists, practioners and fans.

Keep the black flame of Lucifer burning

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast beats  which  also  gives  the  track  more  of  a  raw  Feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  evil  sounding  black  metal  screams  mixed  with  a  few  bestial  growls  along  with  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  war  metal,  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  and  towards  the  end  the  music  slows  down  and  adds  in  ritualistic  touches.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw and  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Impurity  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  and  satanic  black/war  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

Next  up  is  Satanicristo  who  return  with  their  satanic  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  ritualistic  soundscapes  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast beats  and  war  metal  elements  can  be  heard.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  bestial  growls  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  and  the  riffing  also  has  its  mid  tempo  moments,  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  more  of  a  chaotic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Satanicristo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  war,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Brazilian  satanic  and  occult  black/war  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Veil Lifter Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the musical project these days?

Hail, A. C. (NecroDD) here, thank you for this interview. At the moment the project is gathering all the feedbacks coming from listeners and press as well. New songs are ready and they will be recorded in the future sooner or later. There's a lot in the works even for other discographic projects regarding VL.

2.Recently you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Of course. The aim of Veil Lifter was, is and forever will be to create darkness through music and to do that the inspiration comes from different life experience as well as from bands such as Denial of God, old Necromass, Mortuary Drape and many more.

3.A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's era, do you prefer the classic black metal style over the modern era?

Totally into Old School feeling. "It still rules" as Pentacle say.

4.You also have experience playing in other bands over the years, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Veil Lifter', that you where not able to do with your previous groups?

Well, regarding my experience I played in previous acts all involved in Black Metal (Black/Death the first experiences with Gor Dur, Black/Speed Metal later in Antikrist Kommand). We released some demos. Following other projects without actual releases, I wanted to play this specific way to approach Black Metal. G.C. is the voice and guitar of Necroprofanator, a killer Black/Death Metal monster from our town, recommended to Archgoat fans and Incantation/Grave Miasma too. We have always had a common passion for italian darkest bands and for DoG or the Black Metal scene from Greece in the 90's, and that's the result.

5.A lot of your lyrics cover Horror and Esotericism themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

I have always been into these topics (as a researcher, if we want to say so, and as a proper academic scholar too) since my early age. Regarding Horror, I am a massive maniac and collector of old tapes and it's still one of the biggest inspirations for a band like this.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Veil Lifter'?

The idea of lifting a veil is a common symbol in pretty much every spiritual path. You can think of the veil of Isis for instance.

7.I know the artwork on the ep cover was inspired by the work of Bram Stoker, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in his writings?

It was the very first book I ever read on my own. Of course it is one of the pillar of the horror and the gothic still today.

8.Originally the band was a duo but has recently become a solo project, what was the decision behind going into this direction?

Nothing regarding musical or personal different point of views. Just everyday life commitments and work related things.

9.The ep was released on 'Kold Cave Promotion', how did you get in contact with this label?

I follow KCP since the beginning and I find it as one of the best italian BM label around at the moment. Vesanus, the mastermind of Kold Cave (and a friend of mine since almost twenty years), is a real Metal maniac, always in search of new bands, of new guys involved into this genre. I can only say all the best for him and KC, great works behind and great output quality in the end. I recommend Incanto Lunare, just to mention one of many, from his roster.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

There are few new songs already so yes, something's brewing and everything leads to a full lenght (or maybe something else before). The (mourn) path is this one.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

The same of always. Extreme and Traditional Metal, full speed ahead!

Aside from the usual classics Metal gods spins, lately I was very much into the latest opus of Negative Plane, Vultur (ITA), Hellbutcher (holy shit!!!!), Spite, Mayhemic, and Spirit Possession.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I thank you once again for your interest and I invite all the readers to stay tuned for the future.

Metal 'til Death

A.C.
