Bacchus are a band from France that plays a very atmospheric, ritualistic and Faustian form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2021 ep which will be released on January 10th by Solar Asceticists Productions.
Dark riffing starts off the ep along with some ritualistic soundscapes and operatic female vocals a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction. Melodic chanting can also be heard briefly while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style and the songs also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling.
Clean male vocals can also be heard on all of the tracks which also add in some grim black metal touches while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Synths and samples are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with all of the music sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction, growls can also be heard on a couple of songs as well as one song also introducing clean playing onto the recording and the ep also closes with an instrumental.
Bacchus plays a style of black metal that is very modern, atmospheric and ritualistic sounding as well as bringing in more of a non traditional vocal approach to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Arcane, Faustian and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Bacchus are a very great sounding ritualistic atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I" and "IV".
