Noctilium are a duo from Sacramento, California that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Utherlandd" which was released by Nailed Nazarene Industries.
Goat sounds start off the ep before adding some melodic guitar leads onto the recording while acoustic guitars can also be heard in the background briefly. Folk instruments are also added into some parts of the music while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. At times the vocals also get very grim sounding as well as the third track bringing in more of a 90's era black metal style and all of the songs also sound very different from each other, melodic guitar leads, clean playing and synths can also be heard briefly on the closing track.
Noctilium plays a style of black metal that is very heavily rooted in the 90's era while also being different at the same time. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Occultism and Demonology themes.
In my opinion Noctilium are a very great sounding raw occult black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Utherlandd" and "Baal". 8 out of 10.
