Wandering Martyr is a solo project from Australia that plays an atmospheric form of depressive black metal and this is a review of his self released 2019 album "House Of Memories".
Spoken word samples and dark soundscapes start off the album before adding in some clean playing and atmospheric elements. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. At times the music also gets very depressive sounding along with the songs being mostly rooted in more of a modern style and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction and at times the recording also adds in touches of post black metal.
Wandering Martyr plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric sounding with some depressive touches. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark and depressing themes.
In my opinion Wandering Martyr is a very great sounding atmospheric depressive black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Everyone Lies" and "House of Memories". 8 out of 10.
