Snorlax are a solo project from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of black, death metal and grindcore and this is a review of his 2020 album "II" which will be released on January 10th by Brilliant Emperor Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals also bring in a mixture of grim black metal screams and deep cavernous death metal growls and the music also mixes in elements of grindcore.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very chaotic style as well as some of the slower riffing also adding in a touch of doom metal and all of the music also sticks to a heavier direction, elements of harsh noise can also be heard briefly on the closing track.
On this recording Snorlax takes black, death metal and grindcore and mixes them together to take his musical style to another level. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, death, violence and apocalyptic themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Snorlax and if you are a fan of black, death metal and grindcore, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Chaos Ov Iron Oppression" and "Impending Abysmal Wretchedness". 8 out of 10.
