Elegiac is a solo project from the United States that plays raw, furious and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Vampyric Odinism" which was released by BRC30 Productions.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some ritualistic chants and spoken word parts while also introducing grim black metal screams onto the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while spoken word parts are also mixed into the heavier sections of the music on quite a few tracks. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them as well as the music also adding in a good amount of 90's and early 2000's influences and as the album progresses a brief use of clean vocals can also be heard along with a brief use of melodic guitar leads and the album closes with a ritualistic outro. The production sounds very dark and r aw while the lyrics cover the darker and more sinister aspects of Odin and his quest for knowledge, ascension and wisdom.
In my opinion Elegiac are a very great sounding raw, furious and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Northern Thunder" "Vampyric Odinism" and "Fade To Dust". 8/5 out of 10.
