Panzerkrieg 666 Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Panzerkrieg 666: It´s quite obvious people haven´t heard of us before because Panzerkrieg 666 was formed in December 2021. So up to this date we just exist for nearly 4 months. We are all active for 20 plus years in the german extreme metal underground scene. During our holidays we decided to start a black metal project just to do something else.

2. Recently you have released an EP, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Panzerkrieg 666: We didn´t even think about a musical orientation we just started doing our own thing spontaneously. HvS just sent me 4 songs right before Christmas and we said we are going to record vocals next week. At this time no lyrics were written yet. So the result sounds a little bit like older Marduk but we are quite satisfied with that.

3. A lot of your lyrics cover war and historical themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

Panzerkrieg 666: In general this topic fits perfectly to our sound of music. The intention was to start an uncompromising project. You have to remember that one of the last taboos in the metal scene for a german black metal band is to sing about war and WWII because inevitably there are people who want to push you in the Nazi direction right away which is complete nonsense. What people fail to understand is that representation is criticism. To be honest, the music should also be provocative. Everything is just politically correct nowadays. People have forgotten to use their minds independently. So back to your question, there are tons of interesting topics concerning war we are going to use for our music in the future and we don´t give a fuck about what people think about us.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name “Panzerkrieg 666''?

Panzerkrieg 666: The band name already existed before a single note was played. In the beginning we had a conversation about what band name to choose for our project which was a pretty funny conversation. Panzerkrieg is a german word which means “tank war”. To be honest we had to laugh out loud but we love the band name.

5. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the EP cover?

Panzerkrieg 666: There was a guy from Indonesia who did the artwork. We just told him what the music is about and he did a great job. That´s all.

6. Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Panzerkrieg 666: For the musical creative process we´ll definitely remain a duo. In real life we´re friends and we absolutely can rely on each other. But we would like to play live shows in the future. We can easily perform as a duo using a drumcomputer which works fine. If there is an opportunity to find a live drummer, it depends on his reliability. We don´t want to be dependent on anyone. So let´s see.

7. The EP was released on 'Human Noise Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Panzerkrieg 666: It´s a new formed indielabel from Germany. We sent some applications to labels and got some positive feedback but we decided to release on Human Noise Records. We had a zoom session with Nicolai from Human Noise Records and had a positive and humorous connection with him.

8. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Panzerkrieg 666: At the time we are doing this interview we are still in the process of waiting for getting reviews. But the feedback we already got was very positive. Even labels that don´t have capacities left to release it told us the music is quite good. In general the feedback was quite positive so far. We think it´s well crafted and if you´re into blast beat black metal you should check it out.

9. Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Panzerkrieg 666: Yes we are but we won´t tell you.

10. When can we expect another full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Panzerkrieg 666: A second EP is already recorded and is in the stage of mix and mastering. Music for a third EP is also in the making already. So there are definitely things to come in the future soon.

Music-wise the songs on the 2nd EP will have a slightly more modern edge to it and while still being black metal also incorporate some Death and Thrash Metal influences here and there.

11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that the band members are influenced by and also what are you currently listening to nowadays?

Panzerkrieg 666: Suffice to say we are playing together in another Death-Thrash band but we both listen to many different metal styles. You can say we are quite open minded concerning different styles. I listened last to the latest records of Ministry, Exodus and Hypocrisy for example.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Panzerkrieg 666: Thank you very much for the interview. Would be very nice if you people check out our selftitled EP on the streaming platforms, released April 22nd 2022. A digipack cd is available via Human Noise Records. Feel free to follow us on social media. Also feel free to get in touch with us for playing live shows.
