Lunar Chalice are a band from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Trascendentia: The Shadow Pilgrimage" which will be released in June by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic synth oriented intro starts off the album while spoken word parts can also b e heard briefly before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking along with the vocals also being done in a clean style bordering on Gregorian chants.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while melodies are also added in some of the guitar riffing. Grim black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the synths also returning on some of the later tracks.
Clean playing can also be heard on some of the songs along with the music also adding in a decent mixture of both modern and old school influences as well as the guitar leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized and the album closes with a classical guitar track. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Heresy and Witchcraft themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Lunar Chalice and if you are a fan of occult black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Calix Cum Velum" "and "The Astral Stargate". 8 out of 10.
