Nagel are a band from the Netherlands that plays a very raw, old school and misanthropic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Hel op aarde" which was released by Nomad Snakepit Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave tradition and a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing.
All of the tracks stick to either a 2 or 3 minute length while all of the music sticks to either a fast or mid tempo direction. Most of the songs sounds like it could of easily been recorded and released more than 25 years ago along with the recording also avoiding any use of solos and leads and always sticking to a heavier direction.
Nagel plays a style of black metal that is very fast, raw and old school in the 90's second wave tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover misanthropy themes.
In my opinion Nagel are a very great sounding raw, old school and misanthropic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Onttroning" and "Hel op aarde". 8 out of 10.
