Feral Lord are a duo from Los Angeles, California that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw, atmospheric, avant garde and dissonant form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Vires In Absoluto" which will be released in may as a joint effort between wilt-shine and Geistraum Records.
Acoustic guitars start off the album before going into a heavier direction while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard along with the tremolo picking also giving the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while the music also adds in a lot of dissonant structures. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style.
A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its avant garde and atmospheric moments and acoustic guitars also make a return on some of the later songs and as the album progresses a brief use of stringed instruments can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover finding power in the absolute extremes of existence and obliterating any grey eras or middle ground.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Feral Lord and if you are a fan of r aw, atmospheric, avant garde and dissonant black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Death Brings Glory" and "Fanatic Enemies Of The Mundane Order". 8 out of 10.
