This is a review of a split album between Poland's Graveland and Finland's Commander Agares called "Awakening Of The Storms" which will be released in may by Inferna Profundus Records and we will start off the review with Graveland who return with their epic style of pagan black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very epic yet heavy sound while all of the musical instruments on their side of the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. When keyboards are utilized they also add in some symphonic touches as well as capturing the atmosphere of a fantasy movie soundtrack at times and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as their side of the split also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music is adds in a great amount of viking and pagan elements. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Wotanism, Paganism and Battles.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Graveland and if you are a fan of t his band, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lords Of The Polar Night" and "Possessed By Steel".
Next up is Commander Agares a solo project who returns with his Finnish style of occult black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some clean playing before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with all of the musical instruments on his side of the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
When keyboards are utilized they also give the songs more of an epic atmosphere along with a couple of tracks also being very long and epic in length. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism and Hyperborean themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Commander Agares and if you are a f an of Finnish occult black metal, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Dawn of A New Morning".
In my opinion this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of raw and epic black metal.
