Notturno are a band from Italy that plays an atmospheric and depressive form of black metal with elements of doom metal and chamber music and this is a review of their 2022 album "Obsessions" which will be released on April 29th by Hypnotic Dirge Records.
Drum beats start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the album. Whispered vocals can also be heard briefly as well as the slower sections of the songs also adding in elements of doom metal.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with some blast beats also being utilized when the music speeds up and the synths also add in touches of chamber music.
All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the closing track also adding in some acoustic guitars and spoken word parts and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover obsessive compulsions, psychological torment and the scourge of madness.
In my opinion Notturno are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive black metal band with elements of doom metal and chamber music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Darkness". 8 out of 10.
