Havukruunu are a duo from Finland that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Havulinnaan" which will be released on October 18th by Naturmacht Productions.
Nature and wind sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction and after awhile high pitched and grim black metal screams make their presence known on the recording and when the music speeds up a more raw style of t he genre is utilized along with a great amount of blast beats.
At times the vocals can be very ritualistic and the guitar riffs also can be very melodic at times and the clean singing that is utilized is very heavily rooted in pagan and viking metal while the solos and leads are very epic and melodic sounding and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and when classical guitars are utilized they bring in even more of a pagan atmosphere to the recording.
Havukruunu plays a style of pagan black metal that is mostly raw but also incorporates a great amount of melody and epic structures to create an album that remains true to the tradition of this genre, the production sound s very raw yet powerful at the same time while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover the Paganism of their home country, Loneliness, Sadness and Winter themes.
In my opinion Havukruunu are a very great sounding pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Talven Mustat Tuulet" "Aavevalo' and "Tuuletar". 8 out of 10.
