Voice Eater are a duo with members from California and Arizona that plays a mixture of raw black metal, power violence, grindcore, and harsh noise and this is a review of their 2016 album "Con Armas" which was released on cassette by Grey Matter Productions.
Drum beats and reverb starts off the album along with a touch of lo-fi yet harsh noise and when guitar riffing is added onto the recording they use a great amount of tremolo picking to give the songs a raw feeling along with some high pitched black metal screams and both the guitars and vocals are mixed down low in the mix.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the tracks being very short in length and the songs also mix in the more raw side of power violence and grindcore and no melody is ever utilized and there is only a small amount of guitar leads and clean singing anthems are used towards the end.
Voice Eater plays a musical style that takes the rawest forms of black metal, grind, power violence and harsh noise and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover Zapatistas, liberation of indigenous peoples, anti fascist and anti capitalism themes.
In my opinion Voice Eater are a very great sounding mixture of raw black metal, grindcore, power violence and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bitter Struggle" "Propagandist Crush" and "Sustain Your Wounds". 8 out of 10.
