Agon is a solo project from Miami, Florida that plays a very avant garde and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 018 album "Hollowed Lake".
Avant garde style synths start off the album while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very distorted yet melodic style as well as the music also getting very experimental at times and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding as well as some clean playing and whispered vocals also being added into some parts of the recording as well as the music also having its psychedelic and progressive moments,
When the music finally speeds up a small amount of blast beats can also be heard and as the album progresses a brief use of growling vocals can be heard on one of the tracks as well as some dissonant and technical style riffing.The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and pain themes.
In my opinion Agon is a very great sounding atmospheric and avant garde black metal solo project and if you are looking for something very original sounding, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tunnel Of Desolation" and "Blackened Remains". 8 out of 10.
