A.Ø – First let me introduce the band. I do vocals and guitars, O.K.F do guitars, F.H play drums and S.E do bass guitar. Well I have spent hours after hours online promoting this album. But I have to say the response and reviews we have got so far is beyond great.
O.K.F – We have done some live shows in Norway this year. We were main support for Arvas on their “Equanimity” tour. And we did some shows with Svart lotus and Dalit. Currently we are already working on new songs and planning live shows for 2020.
2.Recently you have your first full length, musically how does it differ from your previous ep's and singles?
O.K.F – The album does not differ that much from our previous releases. The style is the same. But I feel like we are getting better for each release as musician and as songwriters.
A.Ø – Like O.K.F said, I think this album is much better written and performed. The pace and level of aggression is raised a lot compare to our previous releases. But Flukt is still Flukt, old school Black Metal. Straight to the point, no bullshit.
3.Some of the lyrics on the new album touch on the occult, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in occultism?
A.Ø – My interest in occult and ancient mysticism have led me to read a lot of weird and I guess nerdy stuff. On the album I write about the Nephilim and the old Serpent. Which are ancient myths and stories you can find in old books and tales from old religions.
O.K.F – Death is a topic that interests us. But we are not into satanism or anything like that.
4.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored with the music so far?
O.K.F – War, especially WW2. As you can tell from our first ep “holocaust”, and also the song “einsatz” on the album.
A.Ø – But we also write about personal matters and thoughts on darker subjects. Like inner demons, evil in mankind, apocalyptic themes and of course death.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
A.Ø – The main inspiration I had for the album cover was those old devil & demon paintings you can find in medieval churches and religious books. It reflects the overall lyrical theme on the album. As the album title says, Darkness devour. I think Moonring art design nailed it.
O.K.F – For those who have bought the CD, you can find a hand drawn picture of a Nephilim figure in the booklet made by Drawnsword.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
S.E – The best shows must have been the ones we did on the last Norwegian run we had. We’re the best we’ve ever been, and the energy both on stage an in the crowd has been really powerful.
A.Ø – I agree with S.E, we are better now than ever. For me live concert is a natural high. The adrenaline level in my bloodstream is skyrocketing, and it’s almost like an out of body experience.
O.K.F – We have done some great shows this year, with Dalit in Kristiansand, Svart lotus in Oslo and with Arvas & Istårn in Bergen. To mention a few. We consider ourselves as a great live band. We use makeup, not like the traditional Black Metal bands, we have found our own style. And we try to deliver our music with an aggressive and atmospheric performance.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
Flukt – We have some great plans for 2020, can’t say much about it now other than we will perform at Vaterland in Oslo together with Djevelkult and Damnation. But what we can say is that there will be opportunities to see Flukt outside of Norway in 2020!
8.The new album was released on 'Dusktone' how would you compare working with them to your previous labels 'Nordic Mission' and 'Sky Burns Black Records'?
A.Ø – All of them has been the “right” step at the “right” time for the band. SkyBurnsBlack was a great starting point, our good friends at NordicMission Productions was a big door opener for us and they have done a lot to spread the name FLUKT. Dusktone on the other hand is a huge step up for us. The label has good distribution and great contacts around. So, I think we have only seen the beginning of what to come for FLUKT.
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
O.K.F – We have had great feedback so far. Releasing an album on Dusktone has been very good for us, reaching a lot more people and new fans around the world.
10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
S.E – Searching the architect have a couple of new songs and plans to release a new album sometime in 2020. A new studio and new equipment take some time to get used to, but it’s full on track for a new release within the next year.
A.Ø – I have a new project together with Ø. Neset and O.K.F. The project is called Terror Machine, and we will release our debut ep during 2020. We are going to record the drums next month! Terror Machine delivers violent and restless Extreme metal.
O.K.F – Me and F.H has something brewing, so there is a lot going on. But Flukt is our main band that we use most of our time on.
A.Ø – yeah that’s true, Flukt comes first.
11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
A.Ø – I think we are on a good path with “Darkness devour” so I believe we will continue down this path of deliver cold, dynamic old school Black Metal. Nothing fancy, just flesh and bones.
O.K.F – We have already started making new songs for a future release, still aggressive and atmospheric. But I think it is too early to tell what comes out of it.
S.E – Hoping to bring a bit more ambience and haunting melodies into the mix, but still keeping that dark and old school sound.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
S.E – Everyone has their own preferences, for me it’s been a lot of Shadow of intent, Sleep token and Cabal, but also a lot of synth wave and electronic music that I’ve listened to lately.
A.Ø – For me it is the same old music that inspired me now to make music as when I started out. The Norwegian Black Metal scene from the 90s. And extreme metal from the 80s. too many to mention! Lately I have listened a lot to the new Mayhem – Daemon album, and the new record from Djevel.
O.K.F – The 90s Black Metal is a great influence to me, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth and so on. Also, newer bands like Koldbrann, Djevel, 1349 etc. Also Thrash and Death metal bands like Sepultura, Metallica, Belphegor and Deicide. There have been some good releases this year, Djevel, Mayhem, Arvas to mention some.
F.H – The new album from Djevel and Gaahls wyrd is great.
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
