Nefarious Dusk are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a Cumbrian form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "The Wanderer Of The North" which was released on November 30th by Purity Through Fire.
Nature sounds start off the album along with some synths a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length as well as the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. A lot of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as the music also getting very atmospheric sounding at times along with the music also mixing in some more modern influences and as the album progresses melodic vocals and clean playing can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Cumbrian Mythology and Winter themes.
In my opinion Nefarious Dusk are a very great sounding Cumbrian black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hodbarrow" "Swinside Stone Circle" "Doll Tor" and "Millom pt2". 8 pout of 10.
