Thus is a review of a split cassette between San Francisco's Palace Of Worms and Mastery which was released by The Flenser and we will start of the review with Palace of Worms a band that has been featured before and plays a very modern form of US occult black metal.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown into the music at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very atmospheric, raw and primitive sounding with a great amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as some thrash influences which gives the music a very modern day sound and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with a brief use of deeper vocals, while the lyrics cover darkness, depressive, and occult themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound in the modern black metal tradition.
In my opinion this is another great recording from Palace Of Worms and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE " Alien Body, Alien Mind" and "Temple Of Failure". RECOMMENDED.
Next up is Mastery a band that plays a very heavy, fast raw and primitive form of black metal.
Drums range from mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very heavy, raw and primitive sounding with a great amount of weird sounding parts being thrown into the riffing and there are no guitar solos or leads present on their song.
Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover philosophical themes, as for the production it has a very, raw and primitive sound while you can still hear the heaviness of the music.
In my opinion Mastery are a very great sounding fast, raw and primitive sounding black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out there song on the split. RECOMMENDED.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of US black metal. RECOMMENDED BUY.
