Hornwood Fell are a band from Italy that plays a very raw and nature orientated form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2014 album which was released by Avantgarde Music.
A very heavy black metal sound starts off the album along with some grim screams and blast beats which are a lot faster than the guitar riffs which also speed up after awhile and adds in a great amount of tremolo picking and you can also hear a great amount of melody being added into their raw black metal sound at times.
There is a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts present throughout the recording along with the bass guitars bringing in a very powerful sound during the faster parts and as the album progresses acoustic guitars can be heard in some of the songs and they also take the music into more of a darker direction.
A good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and you can hear a great amount of early to mid 90's Norwegian black metal influences in their musical sound and the last 2 songs are divided into 2 different parts and have a concept going on while the music remains true to a raw style of black metal on the first song while the second part is an all acoustic folk instrumental.
Hornwood Fell plays a very aggressive style that is heavily influenced by the Norwegian bands that where in their prime during the 90's and they go back to the days when that country was still releasing some of the best albums in the genre, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover nature themes.
In my opinion Hornwood Fell are a very great sounding raw, nature orientated black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cerqua" "L 'ira" and "VinterFresa Part 1 ". 8 out of 10.
