Bough Horns/IV/Canti Eretici/2022 EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Italy's  solo  project  Bough  Horns  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  the  ep  was  released  by  Canti  Eretici  and  called  "IV">

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era. 

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  ep  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with  the  synths  also  adding  in  some  dark  ambient  and  atmospheric  touches  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bough  Horns  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  with  elements  of  fark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Chant  I"  and  "Chant  IV".  8  out  of  10.

Bough Horns/As Night Fell/2021 Demo Review

 

  Bough  Horns  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  demo  "As  Night  Fell".

  Epic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into  more  of  a  darker  and  heavier  musical  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  ar e mostly  angry  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  old  school  influences  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 The  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  chanting.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes.

Nimetön Hauta/Huntu j​​​ä​​​rvien yllä/Canti Eretici/2022 EP Review

 

  

  Nimetön  Hauta  are  a  solo  project  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  ep  "Huntu  j​​​ä​​​rvien  yllä"  which  was  released  by  Canti  Eretici.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  ep  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  In  my  opinion  Nimetön  Hauta  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Huntu  j​ä​rvien  yllä"  and  "Kun  saapuu  marras".  8  out  of  10.

Sorry.../Innocence.Love.Sadness/2022 Full Length Review

 

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Greece/Canada's  Sorry...  which  continues  the  depressive  and  suicidal  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  the  album  was  self  released  in  2022  and  called  "Innoncence.Love.Sadness".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  also  returns  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  depressive  rock  elements.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  and  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  heavier  riffing.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  when  they  are  utilized  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  heavier  riffing.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  one  of  the  songs  also  introducing  keyboards  onto  the  album  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clear  vocals.

  On  this  recording  Sorry....  takes  the  depressive  and  suicidal  style  of  black  metal  into  a  different  direction  without  losing  any  of  the  melancholic  touches  of  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  pain,  isolation  and  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Sorry...  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  suicidal  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Love"  and  "Distress".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Greece/Canada's  Sorry...  which  continues  the  depressive  and  suicidal  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  the  album  was  self  released  in  2021  and  called  "All  That  Dies  Was  My  Innocence".

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melancholic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  3while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melancholic  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  melodies  also  add  in  some  touches  of  depressive  rock.  Clean  playing is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  keyboards,  the  album  closes  with  a  cover  of  Lifelover's  "Mental  Central  Dialog"  and  most  of  the  album  also  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  except  for  a  few  seconds  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats.

  On  this  recording  Sorry...  remains  true  to  the  depressive  and  suicidal  style  of  black  metal,  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  pain,  isolation  and  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sorry...  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  suicidal  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Heartache"  and  "Accepting  Loneliness".  8  out  of  10.

  Sorry...  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Greece  and  Canada  that  plays  a  very  depressive  and  suicidal  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  compilation  album  "Years  Of  Depression"  which  consists  of  their  2019  and  2020  ep's  "Failure  Years  Of  Neglect  Apathy"  Bereavement  Of  Existence"  and  "Saudade".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  compilation  and  also  returns  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  second  ep  that  is  presented  on  the  compilation  that  is  presented  also  continues  the  musical  direction  of  the  first  release  along  with  some  of  the  clean  sections  also  adding  in  touches  of  depressive  rock,

  The  riffing  also  starts  getting  more  melodic  on  some  of  the  later  songs  from  the  second  and  third  ep's  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  growls.  Most  of  the  drumming  also  adds  in  more  of  a  minimalist  touch  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  on  the  last  ep  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  and  on  the  closing  track  a  small  amount  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats  is  also  utilized  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  pain,  isolation  and  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sorry...  are  a  very  great  sounding  depressive  suicidal  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Apathy"  "Claudia"  and  "As  The  Night  Falls".  8  out  of  10.

Désespéré/Perpetuus Somnium Mortis/Ardawahisht Kollective/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Désespéré  are  a  duo  form  Iran  that  plays  a  depressive  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Perpetuus  Somnium  Mortis"  which  was  released  by  Ardawahist  Kollective.

  Sound  effects  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  funeral  doom  metal  direction  while  guttural  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  bass  guitars  take  over  as  a  lead  instrument  on  the  album  and  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed.

  The  slower  riffs  also  mix  in  the  heaviness  of  sludge  metal  while  depressive  black  metal screams  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  elements  of  that  genre.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  riffing,  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.  

  Désespéré  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  depressive  black,  funeral  doom  and  sludge  metal  adn  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression  and  mental  struggles.

  In  my  opinion  Désespéré  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  depressive  black,  funeral  doom  and  sludge  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Regina  Tenebris  Profundis"  and  "Sacra Nocendi  Ipsi".  8  out  of  10.
