Horns/Oświecenie/Putrid Cult/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Horns  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  traditional  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Oświecenie"  which  was  released  by  Putrid  Cult.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  he  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  90's  era.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  at  times  the  music  also  adds  in  some  modern  touches  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  

  Horns  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive  and  traditional  sounding  taking  the  aggression  of  the  old  school  era  and  mixing  it  with  a  modern  take  on  the  genre.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  evil,  darkness,  blasphemy  and  apocalyptic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Horns  are  a  very  great  sounding  traditional  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Oświecenie"  "Krzyk  rozdartych  dusz"  and  "Niech  wiatr  was  ukoi.  (Niech  zdycha  ta kurwa)".  8  out  of  10.

Legatus/Aus dem Schattenreich/Wolfmond Production/2024 EP Review

 

  Legatus  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  ep  "Aus  dem  Schattenreich"  which  was  released  by  Wolfmond  Production.

  Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era.  

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  on  all  of  the  tracks  which  also  adds  in  a  symphonic  touch  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Legatus  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive,  melodic  and  atmospheric  in  the  late  90's  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  darkness,  sorrows  and  abyss  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Legatus  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Reich  der  Schatten".  8  out  of  10.

Suldusk/Anthesis/Napalm Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Suldusk  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  blackgaze  and  dark  folk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Anthesis"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Napalm  Records.

  Whispers  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  and  clear  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  folk  music  elements.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Folk  instruments  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  lot  of  shoegaze  touches  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a  lot  of  melody.  Nature  sounds  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length, spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Suldusk  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  blackgaze  and  dark  folk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Verdaslet"  "Anthesis"  and  "Leaven".  8  out  of  10.

Haissem/Khaos Ebony Fame/More Hate Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Haissem  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric,  melodic  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Khaos  Ebony  Flame"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  More  Hate  Productions

  Ambient  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Melodies  are  also  added  into a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  and  symphonic  moments.

  At  times  the  album  also  gets  very  progressive  sounding  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  technical  style.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  elements  and  ritualistic  chants  are  also  added  on  the  outro.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Left  Hand  Path,  Anti  Cosmic,  Egyptian,  Norse  mythology  and  Chaos  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Haissem  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic  and  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sui  Generis"  and  "Tiamtu".  8  out  of  10.

Svart Lotus/Som et vondt Ar/Hellstain Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Svart  Lotus  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  an  old  school  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Some  et  vondt  Ar"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Hellstain  Productions.

  A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  to  them  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing,  when  the  music  speeds  up  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  also  utilized  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

   One  song  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  which  also  return  on  a  later  song  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  an  old  school  style  when  they  are  introduced  on  the  album,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  Norwegian  and  cover  human  nature,  ego,  existentialism,  darkness,  doom  and  despair  from  a  psychoanalysis  point  of  view.    

  In  my  opinion  Svart  Lotus  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Distraction  Industry"  "Cryptic  Lights"  and  "Svart  lotus".  8  out  of  10.

  Udåd  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2024  album  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Peaceville  Records.

 

 A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  90's  second  wave  Norwegian  style.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  added  into  the  music.  When  the  album  finally  speeds  up  on  a  couple  of  tracks  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  most  of  the  recording  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  clean  playing  is  added  on  the  closing  track.

  Udåd  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  mid  tempo  in  the  90's  second  wave  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  the  brutal  reality  of  life  and  the  lack  of  meaning  in  life.  

  In  my  opinion  Udåd  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Den  Evindelige  Ende"  "Den  Virkelige  Apokryf"  and  "Antropofagens Hunger".  8  out  of  10.

  Netherlands's  solo  project  Verwoed  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  psychedelic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "The  Mother"  which  will  be  released  in  March  as  a  joint  effort  between  Wolves  Of  Hades  and  Aregento  Records.

 Tribal  style  percussion  and  drums  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  folk  instruments  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  psychedelic  and  atmospheric  sounding  while  clear  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.
