Despondent Moon/Invoking The Freezing Mist/His Wounds/2020 Full Length Review

  Despondent  Moon  are  a  solo  project  from t he  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  mixture  of  black  metal  and  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Invoking  The  Freezing  Mist"  which  was  released  by  His  Wounds.

  Dark  soundscapes  and element s of  dungeon  synth  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  scream  that  are  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix. 

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  lo-fi  atmosphere  while  also  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  90's  era  of  the  genre.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  instrumentals,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Despondent  Moon  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  dungeon  synth  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death,  evil  and  occultism  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Despondent  Moon  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  lo-fi  mixture  of  black  metal  and  dungeon  synth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Into  The  Grim  Night"  and  "The  Everlasting  Light".  8  out  of  10.

Skuggor/The Expanse/Nordvis Produktion/2026 Full Length Review

  Sweden's  solo  project  Skuggor  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  form  of  ambient  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2026  album  "The  Expanse"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Nordvis  Produktion.

  Ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  The  recording  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  blast  beats   can  also  be  heard  briefly  when  the  album  speeds  up  on  a  couple  of  tracks.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  adds  a  minimalist  approach  to  the  genre,  when  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffs  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Skuggor  continues  to  expand  on  the  atmospheric  style  of  ambient  black  metal  that  he  has  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Skuggor  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'The  Expanse"  and  "The  Nothing".  8  out  of  10.

Blodtår/Monark//Nordvis Produktion/2026 Full Length Review

  Sweden's  Blodtår  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  folk  inspired  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Monark"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Nordvis  Produktion.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  are  mostyl  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.   

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Clear  singing  is  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  lot  of  folk  music  elements.  

  On  this  recording  Blodtår  continue  to  expand  on  the  folk  music  inspired  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  darkness  and  melancholy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Blodtår  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  folk  influenced  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Til  mon  sista  vilopats"  "Monark"  and  "Den  eviga  isen".  8  out  of  10.

Emmeleia/Umbra Dei/2024 EP Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Columbia's  solo  project  Emmeleia  which  continues  the  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  from previous  releases  and  the  ep  was  self  release d in  2024  and  called  "Umbra  Dei".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  recording  also  gas  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  some  synths  being  added  on  both  of  the  tracks  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Militant  beats  are  also  added  on  the  second  track  along  with  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Emmeleia  goes  for  a  very  mid  tempo  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  writings  of  Fredrich  Nietzsche.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Emmeleia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK   "Verlonen".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Columbia's  Emmeleia  which  continues  the  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  from previous  releases  and  the  album  was  self  released  in  2022  and  called  "III".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  clear  singing  and  synths  also  being  used  briefly,  the  recording  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words  and  the  closing  track  is  also  an  instrumental  that  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads.

  On  this  recording  Emmeleia  expands  on  the  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  that  he  has  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophy,  poetry,  nihilism  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Emmeleia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Night,  Sleep,  Death  And  The  Stars"  and  "Under  The  magic  of  The  Low  Midnight  Sun".  8  out  of  10.

  On  this  recording  Emmeleia  takes  his  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  into  a  more  aggressive  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  existentialism,  philosophy  and  nihilism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Emmeleia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Sol",  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  spoken  words  also  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments. When  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  raw  feeling  and  most  of  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  introduced  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.   

  Emmeleia  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  mid  tempo  and  atmospheric  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  poetic,  philosophical  and  theological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Emmeleia  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Many  Names  Of  Night".  8  out  of  10.
