Myrkviði/Harmur/2026 EP Review

  Myrkviði  are  a  band  from  Iceland  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  ep  "Harmur".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing   while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  The  recording  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  the  music  also  adds  in  influences  from  both  the  old  school  and  modern  eras  of  the  genre.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.

  Myrkviði  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive,  atmospheric  and  melodic  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Icelandic  and  cover  the  darkest  corners  of  faith,  violence  and  the  human  condition.

  In  my  opinion  Myrkviði  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kridtur  Mun  Falola"  and  "Harmur".  8  out  of  10.

Enchanted Forest/Demo 2025 Review

 

  Enchanted  Forest  are  a  band  from  Portugal  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  demo.

  A  very  epic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  drum  beats  and  synths  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  first  3  tracks  are  also  Gorgoroth  covers.

  Throughout  the  demo  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  different  vocalist.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody,  synths  also  return  on  later  tracks  and  the  closing  track  is  a  Dissection  cover  which  also  adds  in  some  whispered  vocals.  

  On  this  recording  Enchanted  Forest  takes  some  cover  songs  and  adds  their  own  style  of  pagan  black  metal  to  the  classic  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  paganism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  Enchanted  Forest  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school pagan  black  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED TRACK  "Huldrelokk".  8  out  of  10.

  Mantahungal  are  a  duo  form  Indonesia  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "The  Festering  Decadence  And  Misery"  which  was  released  by  His  Wounds.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  ands  blast  beats which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling. 

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  bass  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  synths  are  added  on  the  closing  track  which  is  also  an  instrumental.

  Mantahungal  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  aggressive  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Indonesian  History  and  the  Dutch  East  Indies.

  In  my  opinion  Mantahungal  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Latunga"  and  "Ephila  Mel  Wihar".  8  out  of  10.

Witches Moon/A Swing Of Sickle To Summer's Dawn/His Wounds/2020 Album Re-Issue Review

  Witches  Moon  where  a  solo  project  from  Ohio  that  plays  a  folk  inspired  and  medieval  form  of  melodic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "A  Swing  Of  Sickle  To  Summer's  Dawn"  which  was  re-issued  in  2020  by  His  Wounds.

  Medieval  style  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

  Touches  of  folk  music  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  also  utilized  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Witches  Moon  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  an  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  medieval  and  folk  music  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature,  death,  witchcraft,  esoteric  and  occult  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Witches  Moon  where  a  very  great  sounding  folk  inspired,  atmospheric,  medieval  and  melodic  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gatekeeper"  and  "Dance  With  Lightning".  8  out  of  10.

Larghrana/Silhouettes Of Absence/2026 EP review

 

  Larghrana  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  f  their  self  released  2026  ep  "Silhouettes  Of  Absence"  which  will  be  released  on  August  28th.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry sounding  black  metal  screams.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast beats.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  recording  also  adds  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small amount  of  clean  playing as  well  as  the  guitar  leads  being  done  in  a  melodic  post  metal  style and  sticks  to  a  very  modern  direction,  whispers,  spoken  words  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  introspective  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Larghrana  are  a  very  decent  sounding  post  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Withered  (Martyr  To  The  Absence of  Mine)"  and  "Cairn  (In  The  Absence  Of  Form,  We  Begin)".  7  out  of  10.

Seer's Fire/Whispers In The Fire/His Wounds/2020 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  Seer's  Fire  are  a  solo  project  from  the  Netherlands  that  plays  a  very  epic,  atmospheric  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "Whispers  In  The  Fire"  which  was  re-issued  in  2020  by  His  Wounds.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  recording  also  capturing  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental.

  Seer's  Fire  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  epic,  atmospheric  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Fantasy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Seer's  Fire  are  a  very  great  sounding  epic,  atmospheric  and  lo-fi  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Windswept  Cold,  Winter's  Grasp"  "Misty  Shores  Where  Ice  Rests"  and  "Mighty  Walls  Amongst  Forlorn  Fields".  8  out  of  10.

Despondent Moon/Enshrouded In Eternal Moonlight/His Wounds/2021 Full Length Review

 

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recoding  from  United  Kingdom's  solo  project  Despondent  Moon  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  and  lo-fi  mixture  of  black  metal  and  dungeon  synth  and  the  album  was  released  in  2021  by  his  Wounds  and  called  "Enshrouded  In  Eternal  Moonlight".

  A  dungeon  synth  orientated  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  At  times  the  music  also  also  gets  very  lo-fi  sounding  while  also  capturing  the  aggression  of  the  old  school  era.  The  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  the  recording  also  adds  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  raw  yet  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  

  On  this  recording  Despondent  Moon  brings  out  a  very  atmospheric,  raw  and  lo-fi  mixture  of  black  metal  and  dungeon  synth.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death,  evil  and  occultism  themes.
