Nighthämmer are a band from Oakland, California that plays an old school form of black metal with elements of d beat and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Land Of Fear" which will be released on June 28th by Inferna Profundus Records.
Clean playing starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A lot of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era along with some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as the album also mixing in a great amount of d beat and thrash metal influences. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover apostolic occultism and apocalyptic themes.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in more of an old school style along with a couple of songs also adding in a smalls of clear chants and singing, they also make a 90's style also sound more modern and clean playing also returns on one of the later tracks.
In my opinion Nighthämmer are a very great sounding old school black metal band with elements of d beat and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Land Of Fear" and "Impregnable Black Night". 8 out of 10/.
