Léthifère/Imprécation/Ancestrale Production/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Léthifère  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  melodic  and  epic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Imprécation"  which  was  released  by  Ancestrale  Production.

  A  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of b last  beats.  Vocals a r e mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  faster  riffing  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and synths  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track  which  is  also  an  instrumental

  On  this  recording   Léthifère  remains  true  to  the  raw,  melodic  and  epic  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  the  human  mind  and  behaviour  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from   Léthifère  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  melodic  and  epic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Conscience"  and  "Obscure  hantise".  8  out  of  10.

ArsGoatia/Huding Amongst Humans/Van Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  ArsGoatia  are  a  band  from  Austria  that  plays  a  very  fast  and  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Amongst  Humans"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Van  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  some  angry  shouts  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in a  very  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  hast  parts  while t he  music  also  shows  influences  of  both  the  modern  and  old  school  era.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  chaotic  style  as  well  as  one  track  being  a  ritualistic  interlude  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction,  growls  can  also b e  heard  briefly  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  clear  vocals..   

  ArsGoatia  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t hat  is  very  fast,  aggressive  melodic  and  traditional  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  curses,  hypocrisy  and  deceit  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  ArsGoatia  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast,  aggressive  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  The  Veins  of  The  Saints"  and  "Tyrant  Of  All  men".  8  out  of  10.

Mantiel/Wampyric Rites/Ensomhet (Shattered Memories From A Distant Past)/Inferna Profundus Records/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Germany/Chile's  Mantiel  and  Ecuador's  Wampyric  Rites  called  "Ensomhet  (Shattered  memories  From  A  Distant  Past)"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Inferna  Profundus  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Mantiel  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Some  of t heir  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clean  playing  can  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  as  well  as  the  songs  also  capturing  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  pay  homage  to  the  great  black  dragon.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mantiel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Crossing  the  Ancient  Dusk".

  Next  up  is  Wampyric  Rites  who  return  with  their  raw,  old  school  and  vampyric  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  synths  which  also  introduces  elements  of  dungeon  synth  onto  the  recording  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and r aw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim y et  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times.  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  pay  homage  to  the  great  black  dragon.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wampyric  Rites  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school  and  vampyric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "III  Agonizante  Trance  Lunar".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  i  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  old  school  and  vampyric  black  metal.

   Šakal  are  a  band  from  Serbia  that  plays  a  pagan  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  album  "Jav,  Prav,  Nav".

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling,.   Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  elements  of  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  amount  of  old  school  influences  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  clear  pagan  vocals  onto  the  recording.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Serbian  and  cover  Slavic  Mythology  and  Heathen  Heritage  themes.

  In  my  opinion   Šakal  are  a  very  great  sounding  pagan  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Himna  Mrtvih  Bogova  (1168)"  and  "Stvaranje  svetova".  8  out  of  10.

  Primordial  Serpent  are  a  solo  project  from  Winnipeg,  Manitoba,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2023  album  "Adversary  Of  God".

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  synths  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast   beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal s creams  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  growls  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  a  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Crüecifer  are  a  band  from  Worcester,  Massachusetts  that  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  demo  "Weird  Angel".

  Rain  sounds  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into  a  heavier  90's  influenced  direction  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  war  metal  elements  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  drum  beats  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  touch  along  with  some  night  sounds  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  most  of t he  demo  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Crüecifer  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Darkness  and  War  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Crüecifer  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal  and  if  you  ae  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Weird  Angel"  and  "Dripping  Black  Spell".  8  out  of  10.

 Dark  soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  clean  playing  also  being  utilized  and  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  tortured  voices,  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  on  track  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Witchcraft,  Primitivism,   Vedas, Zoroastrianism  and  Draconian  Current  themes.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Pyreficativm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Translusent  Gardens  of  Paroketh"  and  "The  Dystopian  Essence  Of  Syzygos".  8  out  of  10.
