Ulveblod are a band from the Netherlands that plays an avant garde form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Omnia Mors Aequat" which will be released in April by Consouling Sounds.
Ritualistic soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams onto the recording. The faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric and avant garde sounding while also adding in some touches of dark noise. When guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very chaotic yet dissonant style as well as the music sticking mostly to a fast style with only a small amount of mid tempo or slow parts which can mostly be heard on the later songs.
At times he music also captures an improv atmosphere at times, as the album progresses a small amount of melody can also be heard the closing track is also over 20 minutes in length. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover Occultism, Qabalah, Chaosophy and Left Hand Path themes.
In my opinion Ulveblod are a very great sounding experimental occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Seven Heads And Ten Horns" and "Chaosophy". 8 out of 10.
