Snaga/...In The Grey Apparel Of Ghosts/2026 EP Review

 

  Snaga  are  a  solo  project  from  Idaho  that  plays  a  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2026  ep  "...In  The  Grey  Apparel  of  Ghosts".

   A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  guitar  riffing  also  mixes  in  a  small  amount  of  melody.

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  an  old  school  influence  while  electronic  sounds  are  also  added  into  the  background  briefly.  Most  of  the  recording  sticks  to  either  a  fast  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  the  closing  track  is  done  in  more  of  a  slower  style  as  well  as  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  adds  in a   brief  use  of  solos  and  leads.

  Snaga  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t hat  is  very  raw  and  traditional  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  writings  of  Robert  E.  Howard,  misanthropy  and  horror  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Snaga  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "...On  The  Grey  Apparel  Of  Ghosts".  8  out  of  10.

Nocturnis/Drangsal/Fetzner Death Records/2026 Full length Review

 

  Germany's  Nocturnis  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw,  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Drangsal"  which  will  be  released  in  November b y  Fetzer  Death  Records.

  Keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can be  heard  along  with  the  vocals  also  being mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  gets  very  technical  sounding  at  times.    

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing  and  the  recording  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark,  philosophical  and  historical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nocturnis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  raw  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tituba"  "Der  Lezte  Hort"  and  "Drangsal".  8  out  of  10.

Aodon/Khamsin/Transcending Obscurity Records/2026 Full length Review

 

  France's  Aodon  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Khamsin"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  lot  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  give  the  music  more  of  raw  feeling  while  the  album  also  adds  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in a   very  melodic  post  metal  style  along  with  the  recording  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks.

  On  this  recording  Aodon  brings  out  a  very  modern,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  turmoil  and  anguish  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Aodon  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Les  torrents"  "Khamsin"  and  "Dans  I'oubli".  8  out  of  10.

Dark Funeral/A Beast To Praise/Century Media Records/2026 Live Album Review

  Dark  Funeral  are  a  band  from  Sweden t hat  has  a  history  going  back  more  then  30  years  ago  and  also  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live  2o26  album  "A  Beast  To  Praise"  which  was  released  by  Century  Media  Records.

  Live  audience  reaction  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  samples  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Spoken  words  are  also  used  at  times  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast beats  can be  heard.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  fast  riffs  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

   Growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  vert  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Christianity  and  Apocalyptic  themes.

Urisk/CALL/Vendetta Records/2026 Full Length Review

 
   Urisk  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2026  album  "CALL"  which  will  be  released  in  october  by  Vendetta  Records.

  Folk  music  style  clean  singing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.   When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  a  cpuple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments  and  synths.

  Urisk  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive,  atmospheric  and  modern  sounding  as  well  as  adding  in  touches  of  folk  music  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  ecological  and  cultural  loss  as  connected  things  and  Celctic  Folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Urisk  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Uprooting"  and  "Fograch  Spirit  Flight".  8  out  of  10.

Eusapia/Thin Cities/Desert Festival/2026 EP Review

  Eusapia  are  a  band  from  Aberdeen,  Washington  that  plays  a  very  depressive  and  dissonant  form  of  post  black  metal  with  elements  of  shoegaze  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  ep  "Thin  Cities/Desert  Festival".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  shoegaze  elements  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  slower  sections  of  the  recording  show  an  influence  of  doom  metal  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  growls.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in a   very  melodic  post  metal  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  ep  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  clear  singing  also  being  used  at  times.  Dissonant  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  one  of  the  tracks  also  introduces  deep  growls  into  the  music  and  the  recording  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  of  the  genre.

  Eusapia  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  depressive,  post  and  dissonant  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  doom  metal  and  shoegaze  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  exploitation,  memory  and  personal  loss.

  In  my  opinion  Eusapia  are  a  very  great  sounding  depressive  and  dissonant  post  black  emtal  band  with  elements  of  shoegaze  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Desert  Festival".  8  out  of  10.
