Celestia/Apparitia - Sumptuous Spectre/Full Moon Productions/2002 CD Review

Celestia are a band from France that plays a very dark and weird form of black metal and this is a review of their 2002 album "Apparitia - Sumptuous Spectre" which was released by Full Moon Productions.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as for the synths they are only used for a few seconds and they have a very dark avant garde feel to them.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal  riffs that are also melodic at times while the lead guitars when they are utilized briefly are very distorted and melodic sounding leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are used on one song, they use finger picking and add a very dark and depressive sound to the music.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with some grim vocals being used at times while the lyrics cover Poetic, Perverted and Occult themes, as for the production it is very dark and raw sounding.

In my opinion Celestia are a very good dark and grim sounding black metal band and while this is not very brutal it is still very dark, raw and grim sounding and I can see this album being liked by the more open minded fans of this genre. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Necromelancholic Reveries" "Morbid Romance" and "The Radiance Of The Astral Circle". RECOMMENDED BUY.
