This is a review of a split ep between Montana's Galvanist and Ulm called "Hollowtop" which will be released in June by Fiadh Productions and we will start off the review with Galvanist a band that plays a blackened form of doom metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some dark and melodic riffing while the slower sections of the song bring in elements of doom metal. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the music also having its experimental moments. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling. The track is also very long and epic in length as well as some growls, spoken words and synths also being utilized at times, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very dark and raw while t he lyrics cover the writings of Georges Bataille.
In my opinion Galvanist are a very great sounding experimental mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band.
Next up is Ulm a band that plays a very experimental form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast sound which also utilizes a great amount of blast b eats. Melodic guitar leads can also b e heard at times along with the tremolo picking in the fast riffing also giving the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
At times the music also gets very avant garde and experimental sounding along with the tracks also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Ulm are a very great sounding raw and experimental black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Alpine Death Cult master".
In conclusion i feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to fans of experimental black metal.
