Marea are a solo project from Italy that plays an atmospheric mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "The Silence Of Rust" which will be released in may by Masked Dead Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the slower sections of the songs also bring in elements of doom metal. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its atmospheric moments and one song also introduces growls onto the album.
Touches of dark metal can also be heard at times along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing as well as the tremolo picking also giving the album more of a raw feeling when they are utilized. Synths are also added in certain sections of the recording and one track is also an instrumental, clear vocals are also added towards the end. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dreams, dreary landscapes and deepest fears.
In my opinion Marea are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of post black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sidereal" and "The Silence of Rust". 8 out of 10.
