Diva Karr are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays a mixture of black metal and noise and this is a review of their 2024 album "Still Walking, Not Yet Flying" which will b e released in May by Fiadh Productions.
Power electronics and sampled voices start off the album before going into more of a heavier, melodic and dissonant direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black emtal screams while growls can also be heard at times and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats are also utilized which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while harsh noises are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs. Female vocals can also be heard briefly along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of synths and clean playing and at times the music also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere.
Diva Karr plays a musical style that takes dissonant black metal and noise and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover desolation and alienation themes.
In my opinion Diva Karr are a very great sounding dissonant mixture of black metal and noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sacred Body Song" "An offering" and "In Their Eyes". 8 out of 10.
