Sig:Ar:Tyr are a solo project from Ontario, Canada that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very epic and folk influenced form of pagan black metal with elements of traditional metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "Citadel Of Stars" which will be released in May by Hammerheart Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic traditional metal style while the riffs also add in a lot of melody. When acoustic guitars are introduced into the music they also bring in elements of folk music along with a couple of the songs also being instrumentals.
When the music finally speeds up on a couple of tracks a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Heathenism and Norse Mythology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sig:Ar:Try and if you are a fan of epic and folk influenced pagan black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Awaiting The Last Dawn" "Ascending To The Stellar Throne" and "Where The Sun Never Sets'. 8 out of 10.
