Orv are a duo from Hungary that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school form of black metal with elements of doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2024 ep "Calmness Is Pretence" which was released by Iron, Blood And Death Corporation.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the music is very heavily rooted in the old school era.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the recording along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some death metal growls also being utilized at times, clean playing and synths can also be heard briefly and the closing track is very long and epic in length
On this recording Orv adds in elements of doom/death metal into their old school style of black metal to take their sound to a different level. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the various aspects of human misery.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Orv and if you are a fan of old school black, doom and death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "State Of Great Turmoil" and "Hollowed Songs". 8 out of 10.
