Voidwomb are a band from Portugal that plays a very aggressive form of black metal with elements of death metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Spiritual Apotheosis" which was released by Avantgarde Music.
A very dark synth orientated intro starts off the album while demonic voices can also be heard in the background briefly along with a small amount of clean playing before going into a heavier direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing and blast beats are also added into the faster sections of t he songs.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a couple of songs also being very long and epic in length , spoken words and Gregorian chants can also be heard briefly and the album also has its ritualistic moments.
On this recording Voidwomb expands more on the black metal side of their music as well as keeping some of the death metal elements of their previous release and also mixing in more ritualistic touches to create something different. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the inherent utter darkness of human co0ndition and the cathartic search for enlightenment.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Voidwomb and if you are a fan of modern and aggressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Metempsychosis" and "Azoth". 8 out of 10.
