Iselder are a solo project from Wales that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a nationalist form of black metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "Gorgoniant" which will be released in September by Marwoleath Records.
Militant drum beats start off the album along with some heavier riffing a few seconds later while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Elements of punk and oi can also be heard at times while the music also adds in a great amount of second wave influences. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with a lot of the songs sticking mostly to a mid tempo direction as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of slower sections and the whole album also sticks to a heavier direction. all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
On this recording Iselder remains true to the nationalist style of black metal that he has established on previous releases. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Welsh Oppression.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Iselder and if you are a fan of nationalist black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Saeson" "Anti-Imperial Black Metal" and "Flame of Glyndwr". 8 out of 10.
