1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Haborym:
Hi John, I greet you on behalf of my band we thank you for this interview! I'll start by saying that Suicidal Anxiety are born in 2018 and after two years we managed to record and publish our debut demo "Negative Thoughts". It's a demo which received a lot of appreciation by local fans and non-local ones, which made it possible to play live concerts, some of them pretty important as well.
2. So far you have released an ep and a full length, musically how do they both differ from each other?
Haborym: I'll correct you, actually until now we have released a demo, an EP and a Full-Length. Anyway, our three works sound differently from each other, and offer a different mood. The demo has that rough sound we really looked for. Raw and violent! The EP has a DSBM sound instead, a genre which all of us feel connected to. In the end, our first Full-Length "Alone In The Cosmic Desolation". Pretty different from our previous EP, especially for the sound and the songwriting above all. We really wanted to give the listeners those 90s vibes, it was also one of the first impressions our fans told us right after the album release. Well, I'd say we can consider ourselves proud and satisfied to have successfully obtained exactly what we wanted.
3. Your music is more rooted in the classic era of the depressive black metal, do you feel this genre has loss a lot of its aggression over the last 2 decade's with the newer bnads going for a lighter approach?
Haborym: Well, this is quite the long matter, I'll try being so concise as I can (I'm not big talk). We Suicidal Anxiety are a black metal band, with a few depressive influences. We are not a 100% DSBM band, even though the name might trick somebody, we know that very well. I'd say it is not a completely dead genre. Tik Tok killed this subgenre (and not just depressive) which I am really connected to, as I also have a DSBM band (Beyond Melancholy). To me, it feels like it's just fashion for many teens, I often see ridiculous pics and videos with dsbm in the background. However, there still are sincere and loyal listeners of this subgenre, they still exist, they are few, we know, but they still exist and they will exist forever (and that's good!).
Now, back to your question, yes, I do think it lost on aggressiveness. As I stated before, I really enjoy depressive but I won't lie by telling you that my favorite works of this genre are those who come near black metal, such as Silencer, Sterbend, Nyktalgia, Leviathan and Abyssic Hate. Nowadays, DSBM is slower and melodic, I would define it "catacombly", I feel like it could be the right term for it.
4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
Frumorn: In the themes we deal with in our music are depression, nostalgia, hatred towards our society... however my favorite themes, also being the themes I end up dwell the most, are nostalgia for the past and the inexorable passage of time.
5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Suicidal Anxiety'?
Haborym: As band leader and founder, I'd say it's right and fair to answer this question myself. Long story short, it is a name linked to my emotional state as I've been a really anxious guy for several years. I've simply desired to take this concept to its extreme edge. It's a name that, despite the problems it creates on the internet due to the search for the group and the confusion of the genre we do, will never cease to tire me or make me regret having called it that.
6. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
Haborym: The album artwork has been designed by our bassist "Grima". In the cover you can mainly see this person bent in front of a mirror, who is holding a mask, which is precisely the mask of our mysterious singer "Frumorn". We wanted to convey a sense of malaise, discomfort and internal hatred. A tired person with self-inflicted wounds in front of the mirror alone in his room, where his reflection looks at him while he is still hurting himself (it's very exhausting as a thought).
The distorted clock and the vortex that creates that sense of loss and confusion.
7. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Haborym: Well, I don't think I'll be able to choose one. Every live show is different, a special experience which transmits different emotions and sensations,
8. Do you have any touring or show plans for 2025?
Haborym: Not at the moment, but we're always ready. In that case, we won't stand back and miss the opportunity.
9. The physical copy was released on 'Kold Cave Production', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Haborym: it is a small and new highly recommended Italian label, the person who manages it, Antonio, is a super available person who you make friends with easily, a person you can trust and who above all works very well! (This is absolutely not something to be taken for granted nowadays).
10. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Haborym: I'd say from what we could have read and seen in the comments, it looks like the album received a lot of attention and estimation in its entirety, which made us really happy.
11. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Berserkr: We're pretty passionate about music and different genres as well (especially metal). This brought us playing in other contexts, such as "Awaken The Night" and "Liquid Rot" for some of our band mates and a new death metal project for Grima and I, "Redneck Stomps".
12. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Haborym: Now this is an actual tough question. We're talking about an underground genre, you'll never know how things go. Our current objective is slowly growing and maturing artistically. Staying in the darkest pits of underground isn't something I'm really worried about. After all, this is what black metal should be, it shouldn't be mainstream, but it became such.
13. What are some of he bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Haborym: Surely band that had that depressive print, such as Silencer, Sterbend, Nyktalgia as I've stated before. Traditional black metal bands too, of course, such as Satanic Warmaster, Forgotten Woods, Sargeist, Immortal, Carpathian Forest... I could keep going for ages. Black metal is such a gigantic dimension, I choose maybe the most important.
14. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Suicidal Anxiety: Certainly John, thank you for this interview and for all the time you dedicated us, you'll still hear from us, that is a promise.
