Lord Of Pagathorn are a band from Finland that plays a very raw, melodic, old school and satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Daimono Phillia" which will be released on January 31st by Woodcut Records.
A classical guitar intro starts off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams onto the recording while the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave tradition but also capturing a modern atmosphere.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the tremolo picking also gives the songs a more raw feeling along with the faster sections of the songs also bringing in a decent amount of blast beats and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard along with classical guitars also returning briefly as the album progresses and when spoken word parts are utilized they give the music more of a ritualistic feeling.
Lord Of Pagathorn plays a style of black metal t hat is very raw and melodic and in the mid 90's Finnish tradition, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferian, Occult and the Crushing Of The Holy Trinity themes.
In my opinion Lord Of Pagathorn are a very great sounding old school, melodic and satanic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Evil To Destroy Evil" "Rise Of The Celestial Scythe" and "Throne of Lucifer". 8/2 out of 10.
