Down To Burzum are a solo project from Brazil that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Peace Alone" which was released by Depressive Illusions Records.
Thunder and rain sounds start off the album along with some tragic sounding keyboards a few seconds later while programmed beats and bass leads are added into the music after the intro which also takes the music into a heavier direction along with some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording.
Vocals are mostly depressive black metal screams while t he tremolo picking gives the songs a more raw feeling and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard as well as the music being very heavily influenced by the 90's second wave era of black metal.
The songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very raw yet melodic fashion and as the album progresses a brief use of ambient elements can also be heard before returning back to a heavier direction and a later track also brings in a small amount of war samples, acoustic guitars are also added onto the closing track which is also an instrumental.
Down To Burzum plays a style of black metal that is very raw and old school and also sounds like a perfect tribute to Burzum as well as focusing more on the heavier side of the earlier material, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death, suicide and occultism themes.
In my opinion Down To Burzum are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Guided To Silence" and "Dark Sun". 8 out of 10.
