Black Mass Of Absu where a band from new York that played a very raw, ritualistic and atmospheric mixture of black, doom metal, ambient and noise and this is a review of a compilation album which will be released on February 28th by Pulsating Putrefaction Records and consists all of the material that was recorded between 1995 and 2000.
Acoustic guitars start off the compilation along with some evil sounding synths in the background which also gets more powerful after a few seconds and they also mix in with the heavier sections of the music at times while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
A great amount of doom metal elements can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with some songs also mixing in experimental, noise and ambient elements as well as some tracks also bringing in a small amount of demonic growls.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard along with some elements of noisecore while the slow riffs also bring in a great amount of dark sounding melodies as well as the tremolo picking in the faster sections of the songs also giving the music more of a raw black metal feeling and as the compilation progresses they also bring in a cover of Twisted Sister's "Burn In Hell".
Black Mass Of Absu played a musical style that took raw and atmospheric black metal and mixed it with ambient, noise and doom metal to create something very original for its time, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Mesopotamian Gods and Anti Christian themes as well as having a humorous approach at times.
In my opinion Black mass of Absu where a very great sounding mixture of raw black, atmospheric doom metal, noise and ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ave Sathanas" "Your Soul Belongs To The Goat" "Servant Of The Darklord" and "Satan's Supper". 8/5 out of 10.
