1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?
I PROÉLEFSI is an instrumental Black Metal effort from Chile, South America with Atmospheric and Avant-Garde elements. FFO: Emperor, Setherial, Abigor, Limbonic Art, Dark Ambient and more.
2.So far you have released an EP, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?
I always loved epic riffs with an obscure and dark influence and also classical music, movie soundtracks, video games OSTs, electronic music like dungeon synth, dark ambient and sci fi/dark fantasy inspired compositions. My intentions behind this Ep were aligned with the orchestration of a spiritual journey, so, the music was created as a short movie, you must forget about verses, bridges or standard structures. Let's develop themes that can create a moving picture in your mind, think also as acts on an opera but applied into the Black Metal realm.
3.So far all of your music has been instrumental, are you open to using vocals on future releases?
I definitely will use vocals in the future but as another instrument, to add a layer of orchestration on top as a choir or even as a solo instrument, the human voice can be very versatile even without the use of words.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'I Proélefsi'?
The words come from the Greek language and mean “The Origin”. In my own spiritual journey I see the concept as the beginning of ancient knowledge, the power of the mind in close contact with the universe. Music is everything and Black Metal is one of its purest forms, like alchemy. It connects our spirit, conscience and wisdom seeking with nature and our surroundings. Is the vehicle like the Philosopher's Stone, that's the symbol you can see underneath the logo, the central key of alchemy, that symbolizes perfection at its finest, illumination, and bliss.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?
The art cover shows the ancient greek ruins and the sky with a human skull as a reminder of the origin (I Proélefsi), the old wisdom that came from ancient humans that understood the importance of nature, spirit and its connection with the universe, sadly most of that way of thinking is gone and nowadays replaced by materialism and vane ideologies that try to sell us a “one and only” version of humanity and its worst characteristics. Even in death as shown in the cover -not physical death but cultural overkill- we can try to reconnect with that knowledge if we stop for a moment and listen to our inner ancient being.
6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?
The songwriting will always come from me, I’ll definitely love to work with a drummer like Nils Fjellström, his powerful style it’ll be a great addition to I Proélefsi’s music.
7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
Being unsigned gives the artist complete freedom to create and develop the art, I’ll be open to work with a label only if it respects that aspect and offers distribution beyond my reach. An unsigned act can get to a lot of people nowadays working with a PR like Davide from The Metallist, he does an amazing and professional job but that extra push is always welcomed.
8.Do you have any experience playing in other bands or musical projects?
Yes, I work with other bands and I have done multiple sessions as a lead guitar player with numerous groups to date.
9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?
A full Length doesn’t make much sense for me in the near future, I like this short EP formats because I can focus on deliver my best in a regular time frame, speaking of that, I’m currently working on the follow up for “I Proélefsi”, expect more dark epic spiritual journeys and greek inspired themes.
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I love music that can create an atmosphere in my mind and evoques those dark ancient feelings. I can always count on Black Metal, Metal in its various forms, classical music, movie soundtracks, video games music and dark electronic music. Sühnopfer is an amazing French Black Metal band that always delivers great music, from my country I can recommend Arrealhue, those guys create impressive Atmospheric Folk Black Metal and Inanna, an immense Dark Cosmic Death Metal band, both with a huge following in the underground worldwide.
11.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thanks for your interest in my music, and also thanks to the people that showed appreciation for my art so far. Always remember… Think… Learn… Feel the nature… Feel the music… Appreciate the ancient forces beyond any monotheistic religion, call them however you like, I called those The Universe. Keep your instincts sharp and focused.
