Kharàce/Dakhalè/Xenoglossy Productions/Cossyra Tapes/2021 Full Length Review

 

   Kharàce  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  with  some elements  of  ambient  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "Dakhalè"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Xenoglossy  Productions  and  Cossyra  Tapes.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also h ear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  that  are  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.  Influences  of  the  90's  era  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  songs  also adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  The  mid  tempo  sections also  adds  in  touches  of  post  rock  and  the  lo-fi  atmosphere  of  dark  ambient  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  hidden  and  lesser  known  landmarks  of  Pantelleria,  a  small  island  in  Southern  Italy.

  In  my  opinion  Kharàce  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  solo  project  with  elements  of  ambient  and  post  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dakhalè [Entance]"  and  " Kharàce [Exit]".  8  out  of  10.

Gadir/Declivities/Xenoglossy Producitons/Cossyra Tapes/2020 Demo Review

 

  Gadir  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  demo  "Declivities"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Xenoglossy  Productions  and  Cossyra  Tapes.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  yet  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  some  angry  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  that  are over  powered  by  the  guitars.  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  music  is  also  heavily  influenced  by  the  90's  era.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well a s  the  music  also  adding  in  some  cut-and-paste  style  loops  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  repetitive  and  primitive  atmosphere.

  Gadir  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  traditional  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  metaphysical  and  esoteric  themes.      

  In  my  opinion  Gadir  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Horizon  Sphinx"  and  "Oneiric  Square".  8  out  of  10.

Gelkhammer/The Sword Of Gelfisher/Xenoglossy Productions/Cossyra Tapes/202o Full Length Review

 

  Gelkhammer  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "The  Sword  Of  Gelfisher"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Xenoglossy  Productions  and  Cossyra  Tapes.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  good  balance  between  old  school  and  modern  influences  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  lo-fi  style  synths.

  Gelkhammer  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  traditional  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Local  Folklore,  History  and  Archaeology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Gelkhammer  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Daughter  Of  The  Wind"  and  "The  Sword  of  Gelfisher".  8  out  of  10.

A Mors et Bello/Feminicides And Other Minor Deaths/Nascemos Morstos/2021 Full Length Review

 

    A  Mors  et  Bello  are  a  band  from  Mexico  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  an  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Feminicides  And  Other  Minor  Deaths"  which  will  be  released  in  2021  by  Nascemod  Morstos.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  synths  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bity  throughout  the  recording.

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording.  The  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  along  with  most  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style  along  with a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Christianity,  Blasphemy,  Darkness,  Death  and  Murder  themes.    

 In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  A   Mors  et  Bello  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Harlot  Of  Christ"  "Bullets  For  The  Demon's  Whore"  "Father  Of  The  Killer  Puppets"  and  "When  You're  Suffer  In  Paradise".  8  out  of  10.

Iku-Turso/At The Crack of Dawn/Korpituli Productions/2021 EP Review

 

  Finland/Netherlands's  Iku-Turso  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  old  school  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "At  The  Crack  Of  Dawn"  which  was  released  by  Korpituli  Productions.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  When  the  music  speeds  up a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  in  the  background.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  one  of t he  tracks  also  being  a cover  of  Ulver's  "Wold  And  The  night".

  On  this  recording  Iku-Turso  remain  true  to  the  old  school  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Dutch  and  cover  paganism,  darkness  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Iku-Turso  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "At  The  Crack  of  Dawn".  8  out  of  10.

  Esenbrey  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  album  "Die  Schlacht  Pt.  II"

  Dark  yet  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim y et  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  growls  also  being  utilized  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  old  school  influences.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  palm  muted  riffing.

  When  guitar  leads  are  introduced  onto  the  album  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  style  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  death  metal  elements. The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Esenbrey  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Verbrannt"  "Eingeweide"  "Flucht"  and  "Zerteilt".  8  out  of  10.

  In  Crucem  Agare  are  a  duo  from  Austria  that  plays  a  very  dissonant  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2021  album  "Calling  The  Void"  which  will  be  released  on  October  22nd  by  Code666.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dissonant  structures.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  riffs.
