Glyph/Remind Us Of The Sun/Weregnome/Feral Age/BMC Productions/2022 Full Length Review

 

  U.S.A's  solo  project  Glyph  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  album  "Remind  Us  Of  The  Sun"  which  will  be  released  in  2022  as  a  joint  effort  between  Weregnome,  Feral  Age  and  BMC  Productions.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  yet  depressive  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  at  times  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  getting  more  diverse  as  the  recording  progresses,  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  towards  the  end.

  On  this  recording  Glyph  remains  true  to  the  raw,  lo-fi  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Glyph  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Under  The  Above  World"  "Who  Lies  Dormant"  and  "Relics  Of  The  Precursors".  8  out  of  10.

Death Embrace/Dark Reflections Of A Tortured Souil/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Death  Embrace  are  a  solo  project from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  occult  and  vampyric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  album  "Dark  Reflections  Of  A  Tortured  Soul".

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals are mostly  tortured  black  metal  screams.

  The  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  while  still  also  being  very  modern  sounding  at  the  same  time.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.  

 

  One  song  also  introduces  clear  vocals  onto  the  recording along  with  the  ritualistic  elements  also  making  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  songs  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Vampirism,  Necromancy,  Exile  From  Eden,  Hell,  Black  Magick  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  form  Death  Embrace  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  and  vampyric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Burning  Souls"  "Eden  To  Sin"  and  "Angel  Death  Altar".  8  out  of  10.

Diablation/Allégeance/Antiq/2021 CD Review

 

  Diablation  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Allégeance"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Antiq.

  Synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  musical  direction  along  with  the  synths  also  mixing  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  one  song  also  introduces  classical  guitars  onto  the  recording.  The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  fee  songs  also  adding  in some  spoken  word  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  the  music  also  has  its  symphonic  moments  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Occultism,  Hermiticism,  Devil  Worship,  Anti  Christianity,  Evil  and  Darkness  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Diablation  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Aigledu  Mal,  Aigle  de  Sang"  "L'Orde  Hermitique  des  Ames  Noire"  and  "La  Nout  Obscure  de  I'Ame  partie  2".  8 /5  out  of  10.

Darkestrah/Chong Aryk/Shaytan Producrions/2021 EP Review

 

  Darkestrah  are  a  band  with  members  from  Kyrgyzstan  and  Germany  that h as  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  epic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2021  ep  "Chong  Arky"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Shaytan  Productions.

  Night  sounds  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  ethnic  style  folk  instruments  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  The  percussions  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  shamanistic  and  tribal  feeling  when  they  are  utilized  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a raw  feeling.  Clean  vocals  can  also be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  recording  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  keyboards  and  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  On  this  recording  Darkestrah  goes  for  more  of  a  folk  influenced  style  of  epic  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  covers  Central  Asian  Paganism,  Shamanism  and  History  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Darkestrah  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  folk  influenced  epic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Warrior  poet".  8  out  of  10.

Ainulindalë/Les chroniques d'Arda/Naturmacht Productions/2021 EP Review

 

 

  Ainulindalë  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  plays  a  very  epic,  atmospheric  and  fantasy  themes  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  ep  "Les  chroniques  d'Arda"  which  was  released  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  ep  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  operatic  female  vocals  before  going  into  a  heavier  and  melodic  music  direction.  Epic  sounding  synths  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  clear  male  vocals  can  also be   heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.

  Ainulindalë  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  epic,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sounding.   The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Fantasy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ainulindalë  are  a  very  great  sounding  epic  and  atmospheric  fantasy  themes  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Dagor-nuin-Giliath".  8  out  of  10.

  Baal  are  a  band  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  very  cold  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Epitaphion"  which  was  released  by  Nekrogoat  Heresy  Productions.

  A  very  fast,   raw  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  yet  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  and  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melodies.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  along  with  all  of  the  music  also  being  aggressive  from  beginning  to  end  of  the  album.

  Baal  plays  a  style  of  black  emtal  that  is  very  raw,  melodic,  cold  and  traditional  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cove r Occultism,  Death  and  Hatred  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Baal  are  a  very  great  sounding  cold  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wolves  Gathering  For  The  Hunt"  and  "Disown  The  Essence  of  Letting  Go".  8  out  of  10.

  In  my  opinion  Rift  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric,  epic  and  melodic  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Acolyte  Of  Worms"  "Graven  Solace"  and  "Posthumous  Rapture".  8  out  of  10.
