Insepultus/Deadly Gleams of Blood/Loud Rage Music/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Insepultus  are  a  solo  project  from  Romania  that  plays  a  very  technical,  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Deadly  Gleams  Of  Blood"  which  will b e  released  on  December  15th  by  Loud  Rage  Music.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams. Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a decent  amount  of  melody.  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  The  music  also  having  its  technical  moments  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  war  samples,  spoken  word  parts  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  one  track.  The  production  so9unds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  horrors  of  war  as  seen  through  the  eyes  of  a  young  soldier  in t he  frontline.

  In  my  opinion  Insepultus  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic,  old  school  and  technical  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Last  Battle"  and  "The  Trumpet  Sound".  8  out  of  10.

Sad/Black Metal Craft/Purity Through Fire/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Sad  are  a  duo  from  Greece  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Black  Metal  Craft"  which  will  be  released  on  December  23rd  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

   Grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily rooted  in  the  90's  Nordic  second  wave  style  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  very  true  to  an  old  school  yet  melodic  direction.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  the  closing  song  also  being  an  instrumental

  On  this  recording  Sad  remains  true  to  the  old  school  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  sadness,  negativity,  darkness,  evil  and  black  metal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sad  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Metal  Craft"  "Sickening  Euphoria"  and  "Blissful  Horizon".  8  out  of  10.

Suel/Venomous Curse/Vendetta Records/2023 FUll Length Review

 

  Suel  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Venomous  Curse"  which  was  released  by  Vendetta  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  while  spoken  word  parts  are  also  utilized at  times.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  clear  singing  and  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  

  Suel  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  as  well  as  adding  in  some  modern  touches  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cove r Alchemy,  Occultism  and  the  Spiritual  Poisoning.

  In  my  opinion  Suel  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  occult  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Invisible  Maze"  "Aqua  Tofana"  and  "Venomous  Curse".  8  out  of  10.

Voemmr/Negras sessões no abismo sul/Signal Rex/2023 Compilation Album

 

  Voemmr  are  a  band  from  Portugal  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  compilation  album  "Negras  sessões  no  abismo  sul"  which  will  be  released  on  December  9th  by  Signal  Rex  and  consists  of  their  2018  and  2020  demo's  "Sombr  Moebird"  and  "Tordaebr  Odr  Daebr".

  Angry  shouts,  chants  and  drum  beats  start  off  the  compilation  along  with  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  synths  before  adding  in  some  fast  drumming  and  blast b eats.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  also  go  into  more  of  a  grim  direction  which  evolves  into  black  metal  screams.

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  sounds  improvised  while  the  songs  on  the  first  demo  also  cover  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere.  The  songs  on  the  first  demo  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  vocals  also  being  very  high  pitched,  tortured  and  suicidal  sounding,  when  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  second  demo  while  also  adding  in  some  angry,  suicidal  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  heavier  sections  also  capturing  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Throughout  the  second  demo  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  The  production  on  both  recordings  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  and  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Portuguese  and  cover  paranormal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Voemmr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Untitled  II"  and  "Svwtae  Tordaebr".  8  out  of  10.

  Sylvan  Awe  are  a  duo  from  Australia  that h as  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Pilgrimage"  which  was  released b y  Drakkar  Productins.

  Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  stringed  instruments  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  shouts  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  and  progressive  moments.

 Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.  Growls  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  more  aggressive  vocals  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  briefly,  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  and  heritage  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Sylvan  Awe  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic  and  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pilgrims  Of  The  Sea"  and  "Eternal  inferno".  8 out  of  10.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  U.S.A's  Demoncy  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  ep  "Diabolica  Blasphemiae"  which  will  be  released  on  December  16th  by  Hells  Headbangers  Records.

  A  very  ritualistic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  emtal  screams.
