  Rex  Anglorum  are  a  band  from  Kansas  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  primitive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live  2013  ep  "Live  At  The  Fuck  House"  which  was  released  by  Deathstyle  Records.

   Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals  are  all  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  was  all  recorded  live  and  it  has  a  very  dark,   raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  only  3  songs.

  In  my  opinion  Rex  Anglorum  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  primitive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Stilla/Till Stilla Falla/Nordvis/2013 CD Review

  Stilla   are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  very  nature  orientated  form  of  raw  and  primitive  atmospheric  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Till  Stilla  Falla"  which  was  released  by  Nordvis.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  nature  orientated,  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  to the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  and  there  are  no guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording,  as  for  the  acoustic guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  add  more  nature  elements  to  the  music.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  nature  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Stilla  are  a  very  great  sounding  nature  orientated,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Aldrig  Doden  Minnas"  and  "Allt  ar  Ater".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Moloken Interview

1. Can you can give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Kristoffer: we are currently working hard on writing new material, and we have a lot i will tell you.
maybe 2 new album concepts entwined and a new EP plus some splits are in the planning, thats how much material we got.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?

Kristoffer: our latest album Rural is a grand journey through different emotions, musically speaking. its raw and organic with powerful and clean sound. you can actually hear nicklas breathe when plays a solo bass part bass in "waltz of despair". we want to keep it simple and alive, so that the music speaks for it self.   

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with
the music?

Kristoffer: we write about the complexity of being true to yourself whilst dealing with lovers and friends, as well with life and death in general in all its glory and pain.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Kristoffer: the word Moloken is just an old beautiful swedish word and it felt suiting with the type of music we play.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how
would you describe your stage performance?

Kristoffer: we give it our best in just being one with the moment and surrender to the music we play. we have done alot of great shows, but sweden rock festival was great.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Kristoffer: yes, we have some very interesting stuff in the making.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of
underground metal?

Kristoffer: those who actually give us their full attention seems to recongize that we play from the heart and then we get great response and fans for life. 

8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Jakob: I’m supposed to play drums on a raw black metal project with my oldest friend, Carl. Since I’m not involved in the release, I have no idea when or if it will be an official release. Besides that, I’m playing drums in JZZBLK, an experimental rock band. We’ve started rehearsal recordings for future album ideas.

And like everyone else I have an idea for a solo project, which might never be recorded or released, depending on time and patience. It’s a black/death mix, or something like that.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

Jakob: I don’t know for sure what direction we will take, but I’m pretty confident we won’t start to sound like Merzbow or Apex Twin, although they’re excellent artists in their own way. Moloken has its own sound and I can’t see a near future where we develop soundscapes, programming or tweaks. It’s still pretty organic and simple, as it has been from the start. As far as the new material goes, we’ve pushed the influential barriers somewhat, but not much. It’s still us.

We’ve also used more rhythm, layers and thematic works in the new materials.

A personal interest of mine has been to try and cross-breed different kind of harmonic patterns, making music sound like (a)tonal versions of schizophrenia. I’ve never had the talent to materialize it before, but maybe this idea has come to bear fruit in some of the latest works. Time will tell. In the past, some of the most influential 20^th century classic composers had similar fantasies, stubborn enough to outlive the drawing board, like Messiaen, Schönberg, Varèse.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music
and also what are you listening to nowadays/

Jakob: King Crimson and Stravinskij has been huge influences for me ever since high school. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Ved Buens Ende/Virus are probably the closest influences after that, and many of the death and black metal classics from the 90’s.

Kristoffer: right now in the stereo: Dråpsnatt, Bergsraven, System Annihilated, Nero Di Marte, Opeth, Mew, Kent, Enchant  

11. Does Occultism play any role in your music?

Jakob: So far, no. The brothers write from their hearts in a more straight-forward way. Patrik and I have used metaphors. For me it’s usually been depictions on either societal change, like the human value versus the collective or mental change, such as projected aggression, sadism, submission. In the new materials, I’ve adopted the brothers’ approach. Besides all of this, I agree to some degree that religion “…is the opium of the people”, and occultism is a special flavour of the drug, a rare type of the rush.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Kristoffer: self sufficiency, organizing 

Jakob: Literature, socializing, amusing myself.

Ruins/Place Of No Pity/Listenable Records/2013 CD Review

  Ruins  not  to  be  confused  with  the  band  from  Germany  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  mixes  second  wave  black  metal  with  dark  death  metal  and  thrash  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Place  Of  No Pity"  which  will  be  released  by  Listenable  Records.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Rhythm  guitars range  from  slow,  mid paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal  with  the  darkest  form  of  death  metal  and  thrash  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals  are  all  Tom  G  Warrior  style  growls and  grunts  as  well  as  a  brief  spoken  word  part,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  as  for the  production  it has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  dark  and  heavy  sound  to  it  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Ruins  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  black,  dark,  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS INCLUDE  "Inhabit  The  Twilight"  "Winters  Will"  "Let  The  Perish"  and  "Oath".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Darkness Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hails, M is answering!
Well the band now is a lethargic state, after that Mayhem decided to stop playing drums, he decided to stop his musical activity for a while, so I don't know if he will still be part of the band, so actually Darkness is only me.
I'm waiting for new inspiration and I'll dedicate the next efforts to the promotion of "Anti Human Life" through labels, distro's and our contacts, so nothing new in particular...

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous  releases?
"Anti Human Life" is fucking primitive Black Metal! Probably the Darkness' most brutal assault 'till now!
It differs from the previous releases for his extreme attitude, the previous songs had a "melodic" and classical approach, including some solo's and harmonies; "Anti Human Life" is Fucking Primitive Metal.
You can check what I mean in the cd too as the first part is formed by the new minicd and the second one is the very first demo from 2001. If you listen to it you'll keep immediately what I mean.
The sound is still raw as hell as it's one of the trademarks of the band.
About next releases...I don't know if I will keep this direction, I play what I want and feel at the recording moment, so, time will tell...

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
The usual topics of a Black-Death Metal band: war, destruction, death, suicide, killings and in particular the war against the monotheistic plagues!
The motto of the Darkness lyrics is "Darkness wants you dead"!

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Darkness, in his immensity, vaquity and terrible emptiness, but also in the sense of blind violence toward all! The inspiration is a destructive and self destructive energy that I try to express in lyrics and music.
Darkness express all my negativity toward the modern world!
I know that there are other bands with the same name, but I don't care, because Darkness is the perfect name for the music of this band!

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
Darkness never played live, it was born as a studio band since the beginning, because we were very involved in other bands.
The basic line up was me and Mayhem (ex The True Endless), then we had other people too, like Brumy, Soulfucker (from The True Endless) and Psychostef (from Psychofagist), but they've been session members only, there's not a proper line up for live gigs.
I don't know if Darkness will play live one day, but with the right conditions...who knows?

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
As I told you before Darkness is a studio band, so there are no planned tours...

7. The new album came out on Satanic Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
I've been contacted by Satanic Records one year ago, he wanted to release one of the bands in which I play, so at this time there was "Anti Human Life" ready, I sent him a promo and he liked it immediately offering the deal!
Later we choose together to add the "Let The Napalm Rain" demo as a bonus.
The cd has been printed in 1000 handnumbered copies, 200 comes with an embroidered patch included and 50 t-shirts have been printed too!
Satanic Records made lot of flyers and is working hard to distribute the cd in the best way.
So, I am very satisfied by his work and I think we will collaborate soon again for another release!

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the new album by black metal fans?
The album has been just released so I wait to check the reaction of fans, distributors, labels and magazines!
Actually the few people who grab this piece of evilness liked it a lot!
Maybe they needed some raw-real sound in this world filled of plastic!

9. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
As you probably knows I have several projects: Opera IX is preparing a new dvd, new gigs and new songs for the next album, The True Endless is preparing new gigs and new songs and in the meantime the new album will be released by Aphelion Productions within the next month(s). I already finished to record the new Skoll album, I have some new A Forest songs to end up and I will record the new Torvara too, sooner or later!
So there's lot of work done and even more to do, but I will do it!

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
As told some answers before I don't know if Darkness will continue in this brutal way or if it will take back the thrash influences, I just can assure you that it will be always raw and primitive!

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I have been influenced by all the old school bands like (early) Mayhem, Beherit, (early) Bathory, (early) Impaled Nazarene, Sodom, S.D.I., (early) Sepultura, Darkthrone, and many more...
I think that the two covers on the album ("Raise The Dead" from Bathory and "Ghoul" from Mayhem) speak better than any word about influences and listening...
I like to listen at many kind of music (from classical to grind core), but for the most is Black and Death Metal.

12. How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
They are very important, but I don't follow any path, I have my own one as I'm a proud individualistic and don't want to have chiefs and heads over me.
I take lot of inspiration from Occultism (more than Satanism), but always in the brutal way, the Darkness purpose is the destruction of monotheistic plagues and of the 93% of mankind!

13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
I am very interested by arts (from drawing and painting to photography and digital stuff, in carving wood,bones and horns and leather work) and ancient mythologies.
All in all I am very normal and common person in my ordinary life...so nothing interesting concerning Darkness.

14. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Veer Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
We're working on our second full lenght but until it's published I recommend you the first album's vinyl version that released recently by Neverheard Distro.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?
We would like it a little bit more massive and sicker then the first one was.
But until the final mastering will be finished I can't see the big picture.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
The lyrics are reaction to the world that surrounds us, what means disgust, disappointment to us and the hope that this world will get what it deserves. The lyrics have no extra meaning, Jim doesn’t want to express anything special. The text is just a support of the vocal and it’s easy to imagine what’s about even if you don’t know the exact words. I don’t think that we have to give any other details.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Veér means blood, its spelling is a special, old Hungarian form. No sepcial inspiration it's just fit to our music well.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
I really like A38 ship in Budapest, it's a quite unique, a large concert hall that floats on the river Danube. It was a great feeling to play there. Although we were a bit rusty but the sound was awesome.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
If we get the opportunity we'll take it.

7. The new album came out on Neverheard Distro, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
Our former guitar player and recent art designer M was in contact with Balázs. He supports us in the most professional way. Once he even he brought us two dozen beers, and we're still thankful for that.

8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
As far as I know, Kolp is the most vivid one (Knot and Jim Jones are involved.)
And although it’s not a side-project, but I have to mention Vérzivatar, which is our new bass player’s main band.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
There is nothing written in stone but I don't want to mix genres or something like that. So we'll play a cold, simple metal music with strong BM roots.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
When we started the band, for me the standard was Under the Sign of the Black Mark from Bathory. Recently I listen to a lot of different kind of music, even stupid pop songs but Regurgitate is what I never delete from my playlist.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Movies, TV series, and drinking, of course. And recently I read a book about Burzum. I can tell it's quite funny.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
