Blood Of The Black Owl are a band from Seattle, Washington that plays a mixture of black metal, funeral doom, ritual, and progressive music and this is a review of their 2012 album "Light The Fires" which was released by Bindrune Recordings.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blasts mixed in with some tribal percussion, while the synths and folk instruments bring a very dark, avant garde, experimental, atmospheric, shamanistic, ritualistic and occult sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very strong and powerful sound with riffs that dominate when utilized
Acoustic guitars use finger picking and full chords to bring a 70's progressive and folk music sound to the recording with the songs being very long and epic in length, while the electric rhythm guitars when they are utilized are very dark and slow riffs that combine black metal with funeral doom mixed in with some melodic riffing, as for the lead guitars when they are utilized they are very melodic sounding folk/progressive rock guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are mostly clean singing folk music vocals mixed in with some shamanistic chanting and aggressive black/doom metal growls and screams in some sections, while the lyrics cover Occultism, Paganism, Nature and Dark themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy and powerful sound to it and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Blood Of The Black Owl are a very great sounding hybrid of ritual, folk, progressive, black and funeral doom metal and if you are a fan of this musical style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sundrojan" "Soil Magicians" and "Disgust And The Horrible Realization Of Apathy". RECOMMENDED BUY.
