This is a review of a split ep between Germany's Szarlem and Drengskapur called "Ritual" which was released by Folter Records and we will start off the review with Szarlem a solo project that plays a very raw and melodic style of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with drum beats along with some heavy yet melodic riffing and atmospheric sounds and after awhile angry black metal screams are added into the song and the track is 6 minutes in length and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on his song while the music sticks to mostly a slow or mid paced direction while still retaining a very raw feeling, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover winter, darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Szarlem are a very great sounding raw and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the split.
Next up is Drengskapur a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw and melodic form of pagan/black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark yet melodic sound and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on their song and after awhile the music brings in more of a pagan metal style along with some high pitched black metal screams and the track also brings in a very raw and old school style while also almost being 7 minutes in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover Paganism and Nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding song from Drengskapur and if you are a fan of raw pagan/black metal, you should check out their side of the split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of black metal. 8 out of 10.
