This is a review of a split album between Oregon's Burials and California's Exhausted Prayer which will be released in 2017 as a joint effort between Apes Who Look Up People and Rose Quarter Records and we will start off the review with Burials a band that plays a progressive mixture of death metal and hardcore with some touches of thrash, black metal and grind.
Their side of the split starts out with distorted amp noise and melodic riffs which also leads up to a more heavy and progressive direction where you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the vocals are mostly death metal growls with some black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very technical style and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and clean playing can also be hear in certain sections of the recording along with some elements of thrash, g rind, and post metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover human failure and conformity themes.
In my opinion Burials are a very great sounding progressive mixture of death metal and hardcore with some post, thrash, black metal and grind elements and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ten Peaks and Gulfoss".
Next up is Exhausted Prayer a band that plays a progressive mixture of black and death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some very slow guitar riffing before adding in tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs more of a raw black metal feeling along with some high pitched screams making their presence known a few seconds later and the riffing also uses a decent amount of melody.
Elements of death metal can be heard at times as well as a few growls along with some progressive touches and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style and there is also a brief use of clean guitars and melodic vocals are used on the last track, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover pain, sorrow, and fear themes.
In my opinion Exhausted Prayer are a very great sounding progressive mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Garden" and "A Grim Homecoming".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of progressive, black and death metal. 8 out of 10.
