Pleurisy are a band from Australia that plays a raw mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2018 demo "Ceremonies Of Barbaric Lust" which was released on cassette by Convictus Tapes.
A very dark and ritualistic synth intro starts off the cassette before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are a mixture of bestial growls and black metal screams along with some elements of noise and grindcore.
Most of the tracks are very short in length while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences along with the solos and leads being done in a very chaotic style as well as the songs also bringing in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and synths also make a return towards the end.
Pleurisy plays a musical style that goes back to the 90's era of war, black and death metal while also adding in the short lengths of grind and noisecore songs to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover dark, violent, blasphemous and satanic themes.
In my opinion Pleurisy are a very great sounding raw mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Embryo Spawn" "Forbidden Fornication" "End Of Your Life For Satan" and "Barbaric Lust". 8 out of 10.
