Divine Ecstasy are a band from Detroit, Michigan that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Strange Passions" which will be released in August by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very dark, melodic and heavy sound starts off the ep while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being mostly grim black metal screams as well as the music being very heavily rooted in the early 90's era and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs a more raw feeling while the music sounds like it could of easily been recorded and released 25 years ago along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music always remains very heavy.
Divine Ecstasy plays a style of black metal that goes back to the early 90's era of the genre, the production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Divine Ecstasy are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lost In The Catacombs" and "Taste The Demon Seed". 8 out of 10.
