Daydream Flights are a band from Russia that plays a mixture of atmospheric post black metal and blackgaze and this is a review of their 2019 album "Whisper" which was released as a joint effort between Casus Belli Musicia and Beverina.
Clean playing and post rock style keyboards start off the album along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly high pitched yet depressive black metal screams along with the songs also mixing in a great amount of shoegaze elements.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style and at times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding.
Daydream Flights plays a musical style that takes a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal and mixes it with elements of post rock and shoegaze to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professorial while the lyrics cover dark, depressive and melancholic themes.
In my opinion Daydream Flights are a very great sounding mixture of atmospheric, depressive post black metal and blackgaze and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Led Flowers" "Done" "Conviction" and "Violet Mist". 8 out of 10.
